I’m a slow learner, and due to my own limitations the online manual was nothing. I’ve been experimenting with ai, voice input for the most part.
Told it what I had, the SAE 180, it asked what speakers, what amp, what kind of room. And after a couple times of listening to what was said, I didn’t have an AH HA! moment, I did know which slider did what to where.
The dbx and the 3d acoustic sub is a wonderous thing. Ai explained about the 180 being the policeman and making them work together.
 
A 15 foot 1/8" headphone plug to jack extension cable made by Monoprice, so I can avoid having the audio cable between my Mac Pro and my STR-GX9ES going across my desk. Got it for $5, plus tax at the Seattle RE-PC store. Visited the store to see if they had any used receivers that happened to be 70-85% off, but most were either 0 or 15% off, with a few being 30% off. Going to check their Kent location in the next few days to see if there are any decent deals. If not, will probably grab one off offerup for my sister's house. Combine it with the two Boston Acoustics HD7 speakers I picked up a few months ago.
 
Jewel 505 "Pin-Up" from 1947. Designed to be able to be hung on the wall. I love how the selenium rectifier is referred to as a "miracle rectifier" in the advertisement. I always replace selenium rectifiers with a diode. When selenium rectifiers fail, they do so spectacularly.

Previously on other speakers, bi-wiring the speaker end sounded the same as two wires with a jumper connecting the low and high posts. With KEFs Uni-Q midrange/tweeter bi-wiring made the mids/voices more distinct/clearer... or it could just be the better quality spade connectors. I had been using some cheap Parts Express angled locking banana plugs (look like pistols?) that weren't holding tight anymore (1st pic).

I made another set of bi-wires today, this time with Canare 4S11G (oxygen free copper) in green sleeving to match the cables to my REL subwoofers. I made the bottom wires 1/2" shorter than the top ones so that they aren't all kinked up. The red wires are now in my office system (with Monitor Audio Silver 500 speakers).

I just received and assembled new speaker cables! BJC Ten (Belden) with BFA style bananas. :banana: What a difference. My old ones were just "there" and I hadn't gotten around to getting nice ones (I'm ashamed to admit they were from the 70's and 22AWG, uh yeah).

I have an old Harman Kardon "festival" system that failed a couple of years after I bought it. I kept the subwoofer, got a schematic, and wired it to just be a powered subwoofer. That part worked.

Then the speakers blew (two 8"), and I bought a couple of 4 ohm subwoofer speakers to replace them. They actually sounded even better. But a few years later the amp blew.

So, it sat around my garage because I hated to dump it. But last July I bought two of those little stand alone class D subwoofer amps, one for each speaker.

That little sucker is amazing. Makes my Wharfdale E30's sound amazing. $110 for both of them.

Interesting. What's the rated output for those small Class D amps, 8 ohm, 4 ohm?
