When are Monster Speakers Truly "Monster"?

No there is not; it can not be modeled as a function. You are doubtless thinking of the correlation of feline proximity and inanity of self-expression.

When the cabinets are bigger than Neil Young's barn?

"[Graham Nash] received a sneak preview of the new album [Harvest] in a rowing boat on the lake that lay behind the barn. Young and Mazer had set up a giant outdoor stereo system, with one stack of speakers in the barn and another in Young's house. When Mazer came and stood on the shore to ask how it sounded, Young yelled back 'More barn!'"

From Harvest by Sam Inglis, quoted from Google Books

Real Men. Real Speakers.

I think it is when OTHERS call them monster speakers with out being prompted!! I had a customerover yesterday and he saw the ones in my avatar and immediately called the monsters, as do most everyone else!

Jeasss- they are only 6 cu ft and about 5 ft tall!

Just sayin.. ya know.. ;)

Typically what I find when I go to a huge garage sale..

And with that.. I hear garage sale, and see all their crap in the yard.. .soooooooo... ...

It's not a monster speaker until you get sued by Monster Cable for using the word "monster" or any of it's letters in any order.

I guess it's relative to the size of the speakers to which one is accustomed. If one's collection tends toward stand mounts, then a large floor-stander could be considered a "Monster" by comparison. My friend nicknamed my fairly large(48 in. tall) pentagon-shaped speakers, "the Monsters", because they were the largest he'd seen. The largest home speaker I've heard of was a full-range horn some crazy Englishman had built. The base and compression driver of the horn was contained in an outside shed, while the flare of the horn took up one whole wall inside his house.

well i would have to say that with what is on the market today. even the smallest spaeakers from the 70"s seem monsterous. i have 3 pairs of technic sb-g920 speakers and they are a fair size. but i am planing on building a set of speakers that are 6 foot tall 2 feet deep and 4 foot wide. with 3 16 inch woofer 3 6 inch midranges and 3 tweeters each. would that be considered monster?

When you have to use an engine hoist to move it..

(Disclaimer: Not mine. A pic I found on the web)
