Where is center of the Universe

They are putting it so far away so that heat from the earth doesn't interfere with the sensitive equipment on board the Webb.
It looks deep in to the infrared, so all forms of heat would show up on the pictures it will take as light.
So putting the Webb near the earth would be sort of like using a normal telescope here on earth during day time, the earth would shine like the sun.

Edit: this came out weird, if I didn't make sense I can re formulate.

The point of putting it away from heat sources makes sense.

Forgot to add the last detail, I'll make sure this isn't garbled.

The sun is a heat source as well, so the Webb will have a heat shield with solar panels on it, that shields the sensitive equipment from the sun, and provides power.
It has a cooling system that will keep all the electronics and sensors at a constant temperature.
This means that unlike the mighty Hubble, the Webb won't all that long as it will run out of coolant at some point, and repairs/refill is out of the question.

Capsules can get there and back, just like they did with the moon landings. Just more time involved coasting after a burn. The shuttle did little differently, aside from landing on a strip. Aside from that, it was burn and let momentum carry you. Just more waiting time to go further, and an ocean landing via parachute. Not as sexy, but it'd work.
