I have a recently acquired pair of L9e's and I am enjoying them!
Where the Heck are All the ADS L8e and L9e Speakers?!

Greetings.
I have an original pair of A/D/S L9e's in walnut. The speakers are in overall excellent and original condition. I bought them about 20 years ago from A/D/S in Mass.
The grills are in mint cond. The cabinets are in excellent condition with only slight wear at the very bottom front corners (pics avail).
The speakers themselves are in excellent condition as well. There is only one minor flaw on one bass, a small 1/16" scuff on the surface material only, not penetrating and has no affect on performance that I can tell.
I'm not audiophile, but I got years of love out of these, wife says they have to go now for Bose cubes
My ears may be 20 years older, but these beauties still sound great.

L10's are interesting.
They weren't meant to be sold separately but with the Model 10 digital delay for rear channel use.
They are a hybrid with the L400 woofer & L300 tweeter.
Also with vinyl veneer finish rather than the walnut they used for more expensive models, no?
I ended up with 3 of the Model 10's for no particular reason, so was on the lookout for a pair of L10's to "complete" the package, but the more I looked at them the worse they looked, cosmetically. Plus, I figured I could use pretty much anything for the rears & I'm swimming in pairs of L200/300/210/310 etc.
I really need to get those Model 10's out and set up again. One is the preamp version and the other two are powered. The preamp version works 100%, on at least one of the powered ones only the power amp works, no delay effect audible. The other one I haven't tried yet.
The working one creates an interesting effect, I could really hear it playing with where the walls appeared to be. I was going to set that up in my office at work with some L310's for rears but never got around to it. I would have had to swap the working delay section into the powered unit for it to work in that system & kept putting it off. I also thought it was just a tad noisy to be mixing in with the relatively quiet Tandberg gear in that system, esp. in a smallish quiet office space.

The veneer on the L10's was the finest bookmatched O'Sullivan Entertainment Center-grade plood. AFAIK, it only graced the L10's and nothing else.
Their are (2) variants of the Model 10 / 10-01 innards. There was the earliest version which used shift registers in a 'bucket brigade' delay and a later digital version which was pretty robust. The early ones were failure prone. The amplifier section is worth noting in the Model 10. The Model 10, PB1500 bass module, and P100 car amplifier, all used essentially the same topology. The Model 10 & PB1500 actually used the same PCB assembly. It is a decent amplifier in its own right. IIRC, the designer was Gary Streeter. An interesting tidbit is his connection to NASA along with Godehard Guenther -

Maybe @soundmotor can drop by and answer what it might have meant when he was at a/d/s/ but to me it means imperfect. Something wrong that might not affect functionality but wouldn't be a totally correct unit. Cabinet issue maybe.

I know this thread is a couple years old, but for anyone that would like to know, I've owned L710, L570, the rare L630, and have heard the 1090s, and currently still have the rare L9E, the 630 was my favorite of the group, but the L9E is very close if not right with the 630, and the L710 was my least favorite, low end is not stout, midrange is, but anything below 50 hz and their almost non existent, but they were gorgeous with bronze grilles. The 630 and 570 and L9E have very similar bass characteristics and all are smooth and lush and get pretty low, I'm not a tower fan much but the 1090s we're phenomenal also, I hope this helps out for those of you wanting to know more about the rare L9E, their an amazing set and very smooth and refined and hard to beat for an everyday listener.

I’ve been enjoying my L8e’s the last few nights and they get better & better. Matched with my Carver M1.5t, Nakamichi 620/ 630 combo and Kenwood KA 9100. These speakers shine with each application. I put in WAR, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Ohio Players, And Berry White box sets into the five disc carousel and let it rip. They simply amaze with the soundstage on each CD
So tonight I go seriously searching for another set but to my surprise a nice pair of L9e’s we’re sitting on eBay listed for $99 Buy it now ( $75 shipping). Slightly cracked mid dome cover and for some reason the cabinets were shaded differently. All drivers working I had to have them so pulled the trigger I did. Can’t wait to add to my a/d/s collection,Especially if they sound as good as the L8e’s

Oh I'm sure they will, they have no weakness, and that was a real steal of a deal on those.

Any new L9E listeners, I have a set that would likely never get pulled out of rotation except that they are all black and the CFO of the house does not like all black Bachelor speakers or gear so I have to keep them rotated, I do rotate them with EPI 200b's, Dahlquist DQ-30's, ADS L810's and a set of Advent Prodigy boxes that have been "Human"ized (these always surprise me at just how good simplicity can be.. add a brace, some good stuffing and a single cap....) But of all of these speakers I can't really say that any sound the best, because they are all different and good at different things.
