Where to get .FLACs?

I want to listen to some FLAC music but I want to download them and listen to them offline on my phone with HI-DEF headphones. Can I download FLACs or can I only rip them off CDs?

Also @ these, again, if you like "live" music:

If you're brave and can cope with Russian language, here's a swell spot for pulling down Hi-Rez CD and Vinyl rips encoded FLAC:

^^^ All require a facility w/ torrent client(s). I recommend utorrent, which has versions for MSW and Apple OSs.

In all events, you want FLAC music files, these ^^^ got 'em in spades.

There are also a lotta "Music Blogs" around the web which offer "direct download" of FLAC-encoded material, but usually only for limited time. Use Google or Duck-Duck orother search engine to find these.

PS: While one can find lossless (including FLAC codec) material @ Pirate Bay, y'gotta be careful there.

PPS: Forget about pulling material @ Kick Ass and/or @ Demonoid; the former is flaccid as hell and the latter is gone gone gone no matter what your search engine results indicate.

If you're not insisting on free, bandcamp.com and cdbaby.com both sell downloads in .flac format. And although people think of it as primarily a streaming service, Qobuz.com has a download store that has a very wide selection and offers .flac as one download option.

One other thing to determine is whether or not your phone will decode the FLAC codec and actually play the music. Some can't...

Yes, this. No membership needed to purchase files. https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/shop

Also 7Digital offers FLAC downloads and might cover some titles Qobuz does not have available: https://us.7digital.com/

Other sources like HDTracks and Acoustic Sounds offer downloads, but primarily hi-res. (Both are getting into DSD as well.)

An app like USB Audio Player Pro will handle it. In the one or two times a year I use headphones, I use this app to feed the audio directly to my Dragonfly.

As was mentioned in the last comment USB Audio Player Pro is great for this, but another option is using something like the Hi-Fi Cast app on Android to output it to something like a Chromecast Audio, which will happily stream flac to your home system of choice. I know the original question involved headphones, but I just thought I'd present it as another option people might not be aware of.

I've had pretty good luck with HDTracks. They allow parallel downloads, so you can get pretty fast downloads. They offer multiple formats (just depends on the content).

... 2 YEARS LATER.... :boring:

Not only is their library immense, they are very strict on proper CD and vinyl ripping including logs, checksum as well as Hi-Rez. You will get quality redbook as well as 24 bit / SACD etc... although some of your info might be in russian. Don't forget to turn on your Russian to English translator.

Of course the best sites are invite only / application / referral.

Thanks to Apple music and their lossless music, with SoundCloud and Bandcamp l have lossless music covered.
