Which auction that you missed or lost that hurt you the MOST?

OK guys, I know how it feels and I am pretty sure I'm not alone. I could name a few auctions that I missed that gave me some sleepless nights. Am I crazy or are we all on the same boat? Please tell me I am not!

It doesn't hurt too bad when you can't win an auction. At least you're in the game... But man, when you forget or when you are away from the computer and all you want is to place that bid... Maybe I am addicted but, what is this place for, anyway? Maybe for some lunatics? I'd rather say we are passionate about this thing called audio...

Last month I missed a pair of Rogers LS3/5a that went for $600... But this past week I just MISSED an auction of a like -new pair of Epicure 20+s... The worst thing is that the auction ended at HALF the price of what I intended to pay... That hurts! :tears: Can you believe that, an hour before the auction's end, I had to leave home and I FORGOT to bid?

I am still not over it yet. Keep thinking about those speakers... :tears: I even offered some $$$ to the highest bidder to let it go. How many times you do that?

Come on guys, share your pain... At least it will make me feel not so miserable...

years ago..i missed a Pink Triangle PT TOO going for £200... i simply didn't have the cash at the time.. :tears:

What kills me are the local online classifieds. I can't count the number of times that I missed an item by two minues or less. I don't recall the model but I missed a silver Pioneer cassette deck a few months ago. It was the one with the third meter for tape calibration. Anyway, it went for $30 or so. I promptly missed out on a Pioneer PL-L1000 a few weeks later that sold for $50 or $60.

The good thing is that there are still plenty of fish in the sea and deals will come along from time to time. I have snagged a few pieces for free so it all balances out in the end.

I was bidding on a pair of Dynaco tube amps a little while ago that were mislabeled as "Hafler Tech Amps" They went for $400 and I had my bid at $400. I couldn't bid again in time :(

I had to let go of a Yamaha xx-10000 setup about half a year ago, this will hunt me for years to come. Not only is there just made 250 stacks of those, but not many of those are still together.
It hurts just writing this :(

I've missed been outbid on a few auctions I wanted to win,but you know what?I can't recall what they were.
You've got to move on,otherwise this pursuit is a cause of pain for you,not pleasure.

I must have lost at least ten auctions on Yamaha T-85 tunas. I gave up and "settled" for a T-80, and frankly, I'm quite content with it.

Missed a Nikko NR 1015 by one dollar. I was in a staff meeting, and couldn't get to my computer in time.

While likely of little interest to others,.. There were some of the original printing plates for Harry Clarke's illustrations for Goethe's Faust.. that went at auction for about $3500.00. These, I would have found a way to pay for even at 5x that or more.. (a little of an obsession of mine, if you note the name, and one of the mentioned illustrations is my avatar..)

I found out about the auction (not ebay) 2 days after it closed. (Those will likely never be sold again.. as I believe they were donated to a museum...)

Damnit.. I feel sick again all over....

I am a big Rotel fan. I was bidding on a Rotel RB 5000 (yes, THAT one) last year in January. Some may remember it. I went up to $7100 US and lost out at the last minute. The first time it was up for sale the deal went through as the UK buyer did not want to pay the shipping, so it was relisted and thus my bid. I just came into some money and decided to "go for it". Bidding went up, up, up. I suspected something about the $5K mark but the RB 5000 mint is something VERY rare. I got an email almost 5 minutes after the bidding was over to be "informed the winner was told by his wife to not pay up". I checked and the winner was not left negative feedback. I though shill bidding was illegal....

I am still pissed about it. I bought a Bryston 14B SST instead but still miss the fact the RB 5000 got away. I was able to get a RC 5000 recently and would love to get the RB to compliment it but if not I can still be happy. Probably not, though, but the fact the RB came up for bid and I was able to pay and then find out I was played... All I ask is why? In fact, a fellow Ebayer told me that the guy had it for sale on Audiogon only a week earlier for $5k. Had I seen that I would of bought it. No questions.

But I leave most of you with this wisdom: Things happen for a reason. I know there is a reason just cannot see it from this far.

I have two TX-1000's and comparatively speaking the T-80 does not hide(it's performance) it's faceplate in shame:yes:......as to auction/cl remorse move on there will always be something else in the offing.

It's always the online classifieds that I have lost some sleep over ... One still fresh in my memory was an ad for a 250 watt Marantz receiver for $75 plus extras thrown in .... Well I called right after it was posted and a guy was already on the way to pick it up .... Just to rub salt in my gaping wound I made the mistake of asking what model it was and what were the extras ..... He says that it's Model 2500 and he was throwing in a Pioneer PL-570 TT ... apparently he was the original owner .... I even tried to over bid what he was asking for it but he wouldn't budge, said that it was spoken for.

Talk about having a sick feeling .... I almost threw up ... You know your a bit nuts when you consider the one that got away to be a piece of vintage gear and not some chicky.

I was outbid alot and I mean alot. I lost the bid on this absolutly mint Kenwood KA-8100 which was local to me and it had everything with, the manual, original box, everything. I almost won it and the other bidder put $150 over my bid of $225.

I've lost more auctions but I can't remember what they were.

You'll get a set eventually Anders.

I didn't bid on a pair of Yamaha BX-1 monoblock amps that were on eBay several years ago. I thought I'd wait for a nicer pair. Haven't seen any since so I'm still waiting.
