Which auction that you missed or lost that hurt you the MOST?

Over the last few years, I've lost on several bids on Ebay for vintage gear by snipers that outbid me at the last second.

At the time I was a little disappointed.

Cheers, Snade

That's happened to me as well several times, and like you I was a little disappointed as well, but hardly let it bother me past that. Then again, it's not as if I'm pursuing that ultimately rare item, either.

So goes life, and on to the the next thing. There are a few changes that I would like to make to my system, but I'm in no particular hurry to change it. It works for me, so I'm happy with it.

i missed out on a pristine ampex 600 reel to reel by one dollar at the last second. i knew i should have bid a bit more, but it still burns!

While likely of little interest to others,.. There were some of the original printing plates for Harry Clarke's illustrations for Goethe's Faust.. that went at auction for about $3500.00. These, I would have found a way to pay for even at 5x that or more.. (a little of an obsession of mine, if you note the name, and one of the mentioned illustrations is my avatar..)

I found out about the auction (not ebay) 2 days after it closed. (Those will likely never be sold again.. as I believe they were donated to a museum...)

Damnit.. I feel sick again all over....

Had to get this of my chest,it just hurts even more thinking about it,so much in fact that I had to try to comfort myself by looking if this sort of thing has happened to others this bad on the web.
In over 10 years of being just a buyer/collector of rare pre-cert videos on Ebay, yesterday hurt me the most, infact it hurts just as bad now, still feel quite sick inside and don't even feel like eating, just smoking.
For over the last 10 years I always look through the deleted and horror video categories daily (morning, evening, and night).Yesterday morning at around 8.50AM to my amazement and excitement I spotted a mega rare video listed in the 'no specific' category (just VHS videos-the page that comes up 1st before you select your specific categories). It's impossible to look through all these pages, because there's thousands of all sorts off videos listed daily as it includes all videos listed in all the different categories.
This one just had the film title in it's description with no mention of pre-cert,old,rare,the ultra rare label it was on etc.I've won others on the same ultra rare label and they've always ended up costing me around £175-£201.Anyway,the video ended at 12 noon,so I thought I'd place my bid of £201.99p in the last few seconds. At 10.23 AM it was at the amazingly low price of just over £2 (no doubt because all the collectors didn't spot it,just the same as me up until a few hours ago that is).
The next thing I knew I woke up in my chair, looked at the watch and it was 12.05 PM.I had missed it by 5 minutes, but worst of all the end price was only £13.50p,yet I would of paid £200 just like I've done/won with the other titles on this mega rare video label that are in my collection.Nobody was in to call me either.I kicked the door, felt like punching the wall, and sadly I still do.

Bad luck buddy.

This is a perfect rendition of 'He Who Snoozes, Loses" . :tears:

I have lost out on so many items on Ebay in the last few seconds that I developed a new strategy. I keep randomly checking the Buy It Now auctions when I'm home and I've won some items for decent prices. It's time consuming but I enjoy the hunt.

Last week I missed a Sansui AU-X1 for parts/repair which already had a good "buy it now" price, but I fell into the temptation of using the "best offer" feature to save a few bucks. Long story short, somebody wiser than I bought it... :sigh:
