INXS was a good pick, and about ACDC..I always thought they were from New Zealand.
AC/DC is from Sydney. Phil Rudd was born in Melbourne, but currently lives in New Zealand.
Gotye (famous for the chart-topping song "Somebody That I Used To Know") is also Australian. Kimbra, the female vocalist on the track, is from New Zealand.
Another Australian pop act that has enjoyed success overseas is Savage Garden. Don't recall them being mentioned here yet.
Has anyone mentioned Crowded House? Another Australian group with a New Zealand native as a founding member.

Also Mental As Anything from same era, I think.
I have found and enjoyed LPs from both groups that I found in US.
I would also add Tony O'Connor who was successful in AUS in '90s but I don't think that success was exported to US. Of course "New Age" music generally has a limited audience.

Back in the day I really loved You Am I's album "Hifi Way"
The only time I saw them was in the 1990s and they opened for Nickelback in a small club in Vancouver - maybe 500 person capacity. I had never heard of Nickelback and I came to see You Am I so I thought they would be the headliners so I came late but they were the opening band so I missed half their set. When Nickelback came on half the audience left and they made some mocking comment about You Am I so I left too and have never thought too favorably about Nickelback.
Around the same time I was also into Spiderbait and Hoodoo Gurus.
These days I'm into Courtney Barnett and to a lesser degree the Eddy Current Suppression Ring.
