Which Australian bands are known overseas ?

I don't think anyone has mentioned any Aboriginal music groups. :nono:

I can't think of more than one off-hand, though I have heard more including a live show or 2 both here and in Sydney. Anyway that band is Yothu Yindi and you should have a listen. :banana:

I always thing of Crowded House as NZ due to their origins within Split Enz, but I agree that should be counted as Aussie. IIRC, "Four Seasons in One Day" was written about their hometown of Melbourne.

Both Crime & the City Solution and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds first formed in Australia and were fronted by Australians, but were very international in their membership and where they chose to work.

Looking back through the thread, the band that I most noticed as forgotten so far is The Church.

Those are the two that I'd intended to cite. Both included George Young, older brother & musical inspiration/mentor to Mssrs Angus and Malcolm Young. Yes, those Young brothers.

FITP's ca. 1980 (club) hit "Welcome To The Universe" was a smashing number, man.

Founded in Melbourne, and only one member was from NZ. I think that pretty much gets them a kangaroo on the label. :thmbsp:
 
Anyone else remember Skyhooks? I still have their "Living in the 70s" LP I bought new in the 70s. Great stuff.
