As implied by the subject, this is a relative question. I realize some, maybe many, of you would not favor *any* of them. But these are speakers I have on hand. To make it even thornier, I haven't settled on the receiver I'll be using. While it's a question about what I already have, I'm also interested in any mods you might apply.

Based purely on looks, #2 (B&O?), looks like some quality drivers.

BUT---I'm old, my hearing falls off above 8KZ, and my music choices may not be the same as yours.

CopperWizard nailed it, your ears are the ones that matter.
 
That's a pretty fair question.
  • TBH, I don't have a decent way of driving them at the moment. I'm also in the process of reviving several ailing receivers ATM (hence the unspecified receiver), so I don't feel I've been able to audition them reasonably yet.
  • All three need a little TLC, so I want to prioritize the most worthy pair.
I acquired these over several years. In the meantime, I've lost my listening space. So all of this is really a part of reestablishing a listen room or area and situation in general. Just picking up the pieces...

Two receivers that are likely though are a Harman Kardon 730 or a Sherwood S-7100A. The Sherwood is more or less functional, but will require a little attention. The Harman Kardon isn't working and I've yet to diagnose it.

The general situation is that all my gear has been languishing in less-than-climate-controlled storage and is in varying states of degradation. I have an old Eico 81 and a pair of McIntosh MC-30s that are begging my attention. However I thought one the SS receivers I have might get me back in the game more quickly. I have a few old mid-fi TT's that need work and and attic full of vinyl in plastic tubs. There are several cassette decks that also need my help. There's an old Akai reel-to-reel. And all of these need a little time on the bench.

In short, this is a bootstrapping operation -- where to start? :)

So I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Any idea how all that vinyl has held up after all that time exposed to the extreme conditions encountered in that attic?
 
Listening to them and choosing for yourself is the best option; however, it's kinda hard to do when buying used.

Personally I'd forget the KLH's- they were made after the brand's golden period. The Mordaunt Short's have a very good reputation and I'd personally love to hear some.

I own a pair of B&O S-75's and they are incredibly nice! They have very solid bass, clean mids and soaring, slightly bright treble. Plus they have very nice cabinets- mine are finished in rosewood.
 
Echoing Darkblue. First thing would check vinyl in attic, if no AC there. Hope its ok. Pardon, not trying to be critical. Just concern for your collection.

Argh. There's a place in my mind where I lock all consciousness of that. It's a survival mechanism I've developed over time. Many years ago, my apartment building burnt to the ground and I lost my entire collection (along with everything else I owned) within a few minutes. I couldn't make myself by *anything* after that for a very long time. But gradually, I restarted and built it up larger than it had ever been before. I guess if I find myself with rubbermaid tubs filled with puddles of (mosly) black vinyl I'll rebuild again.

I do have a peek every now and again and, visually, everything I've examined seems to have born up OK. But I haven't had a TT set up for a while to really assess their health.

And I *appreciate* your very reasonable concern. I find myself with no practical options for the time being. I've done what I can do. The tubs are mostly full and everything's oriented more or less edgewise (i.e. perpendicular to g). One does what one can do. I do live in a relatively northern latitude and I'm clinging to that hope.

I'm surprised to say that I've been very impressed with B&0's so far. I say that because they are 4-ways and I tend toward the coherent at the expense of hi and lo extension. They image better than I expected.

Indeed, and I apologize. I thought I had the images in the same order as poll entries. But alas... Yeah, the cabinetry of the KLH's are definitely found, um, lacking.

I can understant not having storage options. We can only do what we are able to. I live in northern Illinois. I have sophet vents and thermostatic attic fans that turn on at about 110°in ranch house. A spring day and sun and they are on. Without fans it could be 160°+ up there.

I have windows at opposite ends up there that I keep open in warm weather. And I have a large industrial fan that blows air from the 2nd floor up into the attic and out.

But I'm not sure how comforted I really am by this. :-/
 
I ran across a pair of B&O speakers (maybe 30's or 60's, can't remember) at a church rummage sale a few years ago, decent condition, ok price.
Was kind of impressed with the drivers, not impressed by the "odd" speaker connections.
Decided I didn't really need more speakers, occasionally wonder what I missed by not grabbing them.
 
Probably so, I didn't feel like messing with changing the speaker input terminals so I could use the cables I already had.
