Well, you fooled me at first by having the speaker pics in a different order than listed in the poll...but, the beovox has got the drivers I'd want to here in that assembly.

Yeah, when I got them, that was the first I'd seen of those. I had to order them from somewhere. And I didn't realize till sometime later that I was missing the stands that normally came with them. I may try to improvise something similar.

[Ugh]. Sorry about that. I even went back and re-edited the post. But when I re-posted it didn't seem to "take".

And yeah, I'm pretty pleased with them so far. I haven't had a chance to thoroughly re-audition the Mordaunt-Smalls yet though.

The B&Os sound nice to me through the little Sherwood S-7100A I've been using. I also tried them with a Technics SA-5350 which, though more powerful and fully functioning, didn't sound as good to me (with any of the speakers I tried). I expect later to be using them with the Harman Kardon 730 when and if I repair it. Ultimately, I want a use the MC-30s, but I don't have a suitable preamp right now.

I wonder which of these two is the more efficient. That pair I'd like to use with the Eico.

You got me interested so I found a set of Beo s-60's on ebay that look like the same speakers. $259 for buy it now stands included (not original ones). Tempting but I really don't need any speakers right now.

Oh yeah. It's still 4 days out, but there are no bids yet. If they don't sell, maybe they'll reduce and relist.
 
So I've mostly settled on the B&Os. The MS pair was also nice sounding; I'll probably swap them in every once in a while. The KLHs are definitely on a lower tier; they're going back on the storage shelf for now. All of my more critical listening was driven by a Sherwood S-7100A. The receiver sounds fine but needs a little work, including a weak right side. But that's a topic for another forum .:)

Well, we may be drifting OT here, but I have a couple pairs of Radio Shack fullrange drivers that I would like to put to good use, maybe in a single driver design. I may start the investigation with open baffle.

2 x 40-1272D
2 x 40-1284E

Point being that I also place a relative premium on midrange. Particularly when I get some tube gear back in action.
 
The first two. The bottom one looks a little cheap and cheerful to me. If you buy a receiver that's stable into 4 ohm loads, no reason why you can't keep them both and drive them both.

That never occurred to me.

But I'd really like to get music into another area. So the plan is restore another receiver and press it into service with the one of the pairs. And for less serious listening, probably even another receiver with the KLHs.

I have a small pile of receivers that have need of resuscitation.

Attic Vinyl Update: Well I went up and visually assessed the health of a sample of my criminally neglected LPs. I spent hours in meditation and a session in a sweat lodge in psychic preparation; I updated my will. I was sure my heart would stop when I lifted the first rubbermaid lid.

And all of the albums I examined looked very well preserved! They *are* all stored on edge and fairly densely. But the tubs are not square, so records on the end bearing the wait of their neighbors could have some warpage. I was considering moving them, but I'm not sure if there even is a better option for me right now. I also have a stash in the nice, cool basement -- even money they're a mycological nightmare. :( When I think about it, of all the used records I've picked up over the years, I've encountered many more moldy ones that warped ones. Of course, that could be because the places I buy them from don't accept warped ones.

I dunno. Sometimes I think my whole life is long series of choosing one evil over another.

Following up...

I didn't have any of those euro connectors required for the B&O's and I needed to make up slightly longer cables (the ones I already have are just pigtails). So I swapped the MS's in again and I must say, I'm really enjoying them. I particularly like the transients with these; real snappy. I actually look forward to drum solos now! :)

Of course I'll order up some connectors and rotate the B&O's back in at some point. But I'm content for the time being.
 
I used to have the B&O's. Spectacular — and I usually don't like B&O products. I'd take them in a heartbeat over the other two, a whole different league. If you don't have the 2-pin DIN connectors yet, you can insert bare wire in the meantime. Tin the ends first for stiffness, and to eliminate "whiskers" that might short, and observe polarity. I think the smaller hole is "hot", but best confirm that on google. (At least be consistent with the polarity — it seems most people can't hear "absolute phase" anyway.) And the Rosewood cabinets, not shown in your photos, are gorgeous...

I guess if I find myself with rubbermaid tubs filled with puddles of (mosly) black vinyl I'll rebuild again.

I do have a peek every now and again and, visually, everything I've examined seems to have born up OK. But I haven't had a TT set up for a while to really assess their health.

I should update this too. I've since pulled down several tubs and they have all fared very well.

That's not a bad idea. Again, I do *have* connectors, it's just that the cables are a tad too short for my situation. So I could easily determine the polarity from those and do as you suggest, just using tinned wire.
