Which receiver should I buy with these prices?

Just bought a brand new ATLP120USB and now I'm going with a vintage receiver. I've found the prices below (I know they're overpriced by US standards, but that's how things are where I live --- everything is overpriced).

Considering they're all at the same condition:
Are the more expensive ones worth the additional value?
What would I be loosing apart from output power if I went with one of the cheaper one?
Which one would you choose and why?

Marantz 2238B - $ 455
Pioneer SX 750 - $ 395
Marantz 2238 - $ 333

Pioneer SX 525 - $ 257
Pioneer SX 550 - $ 209
Pioneer SX 434 - $ 197

Thanks for the reply. Out of these 3 more expensive, would you choose one in particular with these prices? For instance, the 2238b does not seem to justify the additional $120 to me.

If new members would familiarize themselves with the site guidelines and rules, they would indeed see that ALL questions about an item's value belong in the Dollars and Sense forum.

OP could ask a moderator to move this over to that forum, where it would garner a wider audience and opinions offered. Makes more work for the staff who work for free, but isn't that easier taking time out of THEIR day than it is from yours?

For some of those prices I see there are brand spanking new alternatives. These are in USD.

The Yamaha R-S201 receiver $129.99 (The Yamaha A-S201 is the Europe-only integrated version of this receiver).
The Yamaha A-S301 integrated $349.95
The Pioneer A20 Elite integrated $299
NAD C316BEE integrated $379

These are dedicated two channel units that buck the local group-think regarding modern gear. These are not home theater gear.

While I know I'll get flamed for this by some, this is just an attempt to present ALL options.
 
The 2238 is your best buy. It is better built than the Pioneers and has a very good tuner.
 
Are these actual unit you are looking at? Because there is no such thing as all in the same condition...The higher end model receivers can be more complicated and therefore more problematic and complicated to repair if needed...not to put you off buying one just remember that before you hand over cash..
Plus it depends what you are going to be using it for...some of the low out put pioneer base model receivers are really sweet sounding amplifiers..As are Sansui..and Yamaha...if you like the Yamaha sound....15/20 watt may be all you need..

Yes, you're right, but I haven't seen any yet, I'm just based on seller's comments and photos at the moment.
I don't need too much power, I think 15/20 W will be enough to listen to my records in living room. My main concern is sound quality.

You know if you subscribe here, All you need to do is pop a "wanted to buy" add in barter town and you will likely get plenty of offers of equipment at a decent price that you know will be good to go...
I am in Australia and Vintage gear now has just gone through the roof...I think its getting that way the world over with the resurgence of vinyl...So good deals are harder to come by at the moment.
 
Of the options listed: Marantz 2238.

That said, if you aren't in a rush you may be able to find similar/better options for that same money. Also, perhaps consider other vintage brands like Sansui, Yamaha or Kenwood. Good luck.
 
You need to check them out.Make sure all the inputs work,lights,etc. The Marantz 2238b would be my choice but I think the price is a shade too high.
 
I'll second or third the Marantz 2238 as my choice. If you're in no hurry, I'd maybe hold out and see what else pops up.

Another option is a become a subscriber and search Barter Town Equipment. Lots a nice gear for sale in that forum.

It's been a long time since I thought seriously about purchasing stereo equipment, so I'm somewhat new to it, and new to this forum. My time for acting foolish was in the '60s and '70s.
You sounded quite specific, recommending looking at a Yamaha CR 1020. Can you give me reasons why you think that way? I'd probably be looking for a receiver in and around this price range, and I like the mid to late '70s vintage vibe. Any comments and advice would be appreciated.

Perr0, those prices are really high. Higher than eBay even. Where do you live?
You should probably look around some more or even try barter town.
The Marantz deal is the best of the lot as the others say.
