which turntable to Keep?

In an older thread someone did mention that because the 1219 had no strobe under the platter, there was more reinforcements in the casting leading to less ringing. I don't know how much of a difference that really makes. If the 1229 is in better shape, that should be the overriding consideration. My 1229 is 34 years old dating back to my college dorm. After a little TLC it is as good as new. You could even try the 1219 platter in the 1229 and use an external strobe.

If it were me I would keep the 1219 and 1229 and your sentimental BIC...and renegotiate with the wife....tell her you met her half way.

You can compromise on some other plane (does she need more shoes?)
