which turntable to Keep?

simplynuts

Super Member
Wife says to get rid of all the turntables except one. I have the following
;

BIC 940 and 960
Dual
1229
1219
1242
1225

All of them work, so which is the best of the bunch? i already decided that the BIC should go even though the 960 was my own and brings back fond memories. It only needed a belt and it runs great.

Thanks guys for your help.

I would recommend the Dual 1229. That's the best.
What are you going to do with the other turntables?

Perhaps the solution might be to have only one on display and use. While the others are put up out of the way but ready for a turn of being used. Myself having no more than 3 out at one time seems to be the correct balance of fun, great music and harmony at home.

I'm with IXLR8, hide a few until the winds change. I gave away my SL1100a under the same conditions, now Carmel would be the first to welcome it back.

My thoughts:

- 1229 is the keeper

- hide the 960 (sentimental value is worth much more than market value)

- sell the others per wifey

Cheers, Snade

Others may think I am crazy but why not sell them all and move up to something nicer. I have a 1019 in mint. It's a nice table but no comparison to my Thorens or my newly acquired Rek-o-Kut.

Thanks for the feedback. I have to keep the wife because right now i am unemployed and she is making money and killing herself doing it.She haws been pretty supportive. I will sell all the turntables and keep the 1229. I very rarely turn them on even though both my wife and i kept all our records. Two Duals are hooked up and can play anytime, but never are. When I do use one it is on my Luxman R-117. Maybe keep both the 1229 and 1219 so I have a backup? My coolest turntable is an RCA Victrola Model 410 console. that I restored. Only 8000 of these floor models were made. I need to get the springs repaired to get it working one day. Thanks for helping guys.

Yes, keep the 1219. Actually there's a Dual expert here that actually likes the 1219 over the 1229, so given that I think they're both worth keeping.

Why is the 1219 better than the 1229? how well do parts swap between models? The 1219 actually needs a new speed lever handle as it is broken off. Anyone have a spare? Thanks
