white van speaker list that can be updated.

If you bought them at Crazy Eddies, they were from a legitimate company and sold at a legitimate brick and mortar store.
 
One would think at some point common sense should come into play. How many different guys have to peddle "never opened" Theater Research model PB4U-GO2BEDS with a list price of $5299 for "only" $599 before one realizes there's BS in the air?
 
I bet a handful of these aren't too terrible.
Some of these speakers are phenominally good looking, aestically.

The white van folks have certainly stepped up their game in recent years. I run across them occasionally when I have to travel into the Cleveland or Pittsburgh areas. They have product literature, web site references, and I've even seen a couple with some BS stenciling on the van "Pro Audio Home Theater Installation" and crap like that.

Add PolyChrome Monitors to the list. White Van, early 80's, but I have seen, and heard, much worse. Only ever saw the one pair, bought them from a pawn-shop. It was a package deal, they came with a 100w Pioneer integrated and tuner that I bought. 3-way, 12" poly woofers with foam surrounds, 4" mids, cone tweeters, a rather large front port, but very light for their size. Pretty typical WV stuff. They were somewhat less than horrible, tho, and my younger brother still wishes I had sold them to him!
 
So... I am trying to understand the white van discrimination... If a company licenses its name to a cheap manufacturer and sells it in Best Buy, or Circuit City, or Sears it is acceptable shite. But if the same factory pumps out the same shite, and it is marketed from a vehicle , it gets the moniker "white van" and gets put on a list for the unknowing to become aware of its shite-ness. Shite is shite and some shite sounds ok. If you buy an unknown name, or a known name, it doesn't change what is in front of you. Either it is well manufactured, well engineered and quality or it isn't. Does Vanna White own white van speakers?

Best Buy, Sears, CC, etc...put a price on the item. And more than likely it won't be vastly inflated in the same manner as white van sales are. Do you really think those companies are going to sell a known bogus product for the $1999 it SAYS on the box is MRSP?
I have been disappointed when I see white van crap sold on Amazon but I realize those are not actually sold by Amazon and are being sold by independent sellers.
The true white van sales tactic is to screw the customer for all you can get.
Point to the BS price on the box, show them the BS magazine review, and point them to the bogus website.
Then ask for beer money because you gave them such a good deal.

I do not think that the "screw the customer for all you can get" tactic originated with white vans. MSRP is a marketing sales tactic used by all sellers. The difference is where the exorbitant profit goes... to some young hustler that in some circles would be labeled an "entrepreneur" .... or to a bunch of cigar smoking masters of the universe labeled "investors and executives". Marketing is sales tactics. They are concomitant, and there are some white van speakers that I would choose over recognized brands. Those brands were just paid to use their name, and everything else is moot.

Point to the BS price on the box, show them the BS magazine review, and point them to the bogus website. Same-same.... White van or box store... real or bogus, it's used to market.

Apologies for my possible negative input. It is just another point of view. I am not defending the peddlers of the shite, only saying that the location is different. The devils are the same, just in different tax brackets.
 
Matrecs had 2 sets were ok after some upgrades lasted a long time. Were not hifi at all but ok party speaker. Got them In Tusla @82.
 
Tusla? Or Tulsa? I live there, and can say the "Tulsa Sound" has nothing to do with White Van speakers! I've seen the white-van guys here, though. Usually their stuff ends up in the local pawn shops in a relatively short time, and there is a LOT of it around.

"Industrial Sound Pressure System"? Do these babies have a safe OSHA-approved sound pressure level limit? Are they fused to blow when you exceed the limit? Inquiring minds want to know!
