“It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival. But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees,"

Blork...

"Agencies"
"Iconic brands"
"Woodstock Brand name"

Corporate marketing bollocks that is the antithesis of Woodstock, surely...?

The shite is starting to get deep !!!

Kids today don't look fondly back on the past because they don't care about the past,in all honesty why should they?
They DO - Roky Erikson is a God, and they have their own events that celebrate pre-Woodstock culture like surf, psyche, garage, and girl groups.

And if you really feel nostalgic for the hippie stuff - they got that TOO !!! It's OK - I can dig it, Baby :beatnik: At the bottom of the bill at Beach Goth on Saturday:

How shallow and vapid do you have to be to get off on working "with iconic brands"?

Or is that every marketing flunky's fondest wish?

I don't understand "marketing" people.

Simple....

Corporate marketing wants more corporate consumers and Woodstock is a bobble used as a hook. To the corporate world Woodstock is immaterial.....

Now those are some mighty big rose colored glasses. Did you forget Newark? Kent State? The 1968 Democratic convention? The abuses heaped upon civil rights activists? Lynchings? Bombings?

As for entitlement, there's a reason the Boomers used to be called "The Me Generation".
Do you know what the Newark riots were about? I don't think you do.

Kent State? Isn't that where the National Guard killed four unarmed college students who were staging a praceful demonstration?

The 1968 Democratic convention where the police attacked the protesters who were numerous but peaceful? Refresh your memory here. https://www.history.com/topics/1960s/1968-democratic-convention

I don't recall the young attacking civil rights activists. In fact, may supported them. I think you'll find that that was the adults and mainly in the south. And,the young weren't the ones doing the lynchings. What bombings are you talking about?

Nowadays, young people harass people for simply wearing MAGA hats. Colleges are controlled by snowflakes who are traumatized by statues and pictures of confederate flags and won't allow conservative speakers to speak on campus..

Extremism, whether current or historical, is bad. These days, moderate rationalism seems to be getting buried under a wave of worldwide populist, extremist, and I-don't-know-whatist ****nuttery on both (far) ends of the political spectrum. Don't give in to it and please don't bring it here.

When today's kids look fondly back at the Sixties they don't look at a 3 day wallow in puddles of rain, mud, trash, and human waste with entertainment that was way too top-heavy with stale hippie sensibilities and utterly lacking in anything edgy like Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, or Led Zeppelin. I hope that wasn't too blunt.

It occurs to me that our image of 'what Woodstock was' and how it felt to be there is heavily colored by the mythos surrounding the event. It was probably quite different to actually be there than most of us imagine.

I'd respond, but this is fast butting up against prohibitions against political arguments.

I may be exaggerating the lack of sanitation. A bit. But when the most daring iconoclastic band is Sha Na Na I think you have a problem.

And to add, barring Donovan and Mazzy Star what more do you need, surf, psyche, garage, and girl groups.
Thats so much better than Coldplay or Mumford and Son.
And to add to an earlier post, there still are political revolts going on,as we speak the French are revolting and they are by the way,
I've been there,
Tch,blowing their noses in the street,us British have standards you know.

I don't think any of them were around back then.
In 1969 they were all nascent - but they were around. Zep was either Zep or the New Yardbirds. Sabbath was right around the corner. And, of course, Detroit's own Alice Cooper was in Toronto showing John Lennon that he didn't drive all the way there just to give peace a chance -

(sorry about the jack)

Regarding Zep/Sabbath/Cooper:
Was thinking the same...however, Zeppelin's debut was in early 1969, Alice Cooper's Pretties for you was just before the show -- June 1969. Sabbath debut not until 1970, though. Not sure if Cooper was on many people's radar at the time and not sure if Sabbath was even formed yet.

Zappa and the Mothers were certainly around! Wonder if Frank would have signed on? Probably not!

I love big crowds of humans. As long as the toilets are clean/close.The sound is good. The alchol is good, quick and cheap and I can turn them all off with my remote and head for my bedroom when its all over.I have been to lots of great concerts over the years.Cheers

"The '60s" was 10 years. A lot happened. How many here, commenting, were there? I mean of "adult" age, 18 or more, observing directly and capable of independent thought? And of those who were, how many participated in many, or any, of what are called the "seminal" events? Or were they just on the media sidelines, viewing/judging from afar as younger people are today?
