Who would have been making these in the late 70's/80's

i seriously doubt these were ever made by speakerlab. some of the components look similar to the line of raw drivers they offered, but i doubt that vertically mounted horn was their design (the HM700B horn in the big 7 was designed for vertical mounting but not this one).

probably some kind of semi-custom build by a local cabinet shop which thought they might like to get into the speaker business. speakerlab did do some custom work though, but not like this...

From the ad I saw recently as mentioned in my previous posts, apparently there isn't alot of info out there on them, I looked myself and didn't find much of anything........I assume the owner of this pair is the original owner since he says he will forward all info. Not affiliated in any form.


THESE ARE A NON- FOLDED HORN VERSION OF THE FAMOUS KLIPSCHORN. THEY SHARE THE SAME 15 INCH WOOFER (ELECTROVOICE), SAME MID HORN AND SAME TWEETER. THEY WEIGH 165LBS EACH, ARE NEAR MINT, AND COST $2700 IN 1982. THEY THE NAS "STUDIO MONITOR" SERIES. THE COMPANY , NORTH AMERICAN SOUND, WAS A DALLAS BASED SPEAKER MANUFACTURER WHO WAS GOOD FRIENDS WITH PAUL KLIPSCH AND FRAISER. THESE MONSTERS ARE ATTRACTIVE AND MAKE AWESOME HOME THEATER MAINS, AS WELL AS 2 CHANNEL STEREO SPEAKERS. THEY REMIND ME OF MY KHORNS AND ALTEC MODEL 19's IN SOUND QUALITY AND SHEER AIR MOVEMENT! THEY ARE HYPER EFFICIENT AT 98DB @1 WATT @ 1 METER. YOU CAN PUSH THEM EASILY WITH AN EIGHT WATT TUBE AMP! I WILL FORWARD ALL MY INFO ON THESE SPEAKERS TO ANYONE WISHING TO RESEARCH THEM. THEY WERE VERY RARE, THEREFORE THERE IS NOT A LOT OF INFO ON THEM THAT IS EASY TO FIND. AGAIN THESE ARE IN EXCEPTION CONDITION FOR 30 YEAR OLD SPEAKERS AND ARE 1 OWNERS
 
Glad you posted that, it's now in the AK archives for future reference. One of the great things about AK is that some really obscure and ephemeral info is documented here.
 
I always thought they were called the punched in dust cap company. Perhaps I was mistaken. I've seen quite a few of their models.
 
The pair in Atlanta are the Squires with the 12" woofers, the pair in the OP with the 15" woofers are the Studio Monitors. You need an appliance dolly to move the Studio Monitors. I am exchanging messages with Toby Speakers, the designers of these monsters to see if anyone there remembers the specific drivers. Unfortunately Gregg Dodrill, owner of NAS, only printed brochures for the Monitor and Mini-Monitor, but not for the Squires or Studio Monitors.

I own these speakers

I don't know if you are still interested but I own a pair of these speakers. I bought them in 1986 in Abilene Texas. I'm still using them to this day. I've been very happy with them. They just keep on trucking. They were made by a company called North American Sound. They use Klipsch sourced horn loaded tweeter and midrange. The large cabinet and woofer give them great bass response and the horn loaded upper end give them a high sensitivity level. They can be driven by a very modest amplifier. They are quite large and some day I'll replace them with something a bit more modern and decor friendly but I haven't been compelled to do so yet.
Did you keep the ones you found and are you still using them? If so what do you think?
 
Don't have a pair, but isn't that an EV T-35 tweeter? Anyone ever opened up one of these?

Due to the age I would think the crossover caps should be replaced. No pics of the innards in this thread, anybody looked inside?
