OK, while I'm all aboard here with what Jack did, there seems to be some need for clarity on what really happened here.
Jack didn't save the Temple per se; he saved the title of the building to its current ownership. It doesn't appear the Temple was in any real danger unless a new owner decided to turn it into condos or something. 1037 rooms is a LOT!!
The article linked below indicates that the Temple HAD been foreclosed, and that Wayne County assumed ownership and would auction the building off to a new owner in September. Jack intervening simply allowed the temple to revert to its previous owner. Hopefully, they can manage the future better and not allow it to fall prey to back tax foreclosures again in the future.
Agreed. Several of the Masonic temples here in St. Louis have been bought up by people throwing money at them. Masons are notorious for being good with money the issue is most temples can't keep enough members anymore. It's not bad money management it's not enough people to cover the costs.
One of the largest Masonic temples in St. Louis was bought by the Church of Scientology (IMO worse than masons). Another was turned into condos and a third was leveled to build a parking lot. Personally I think the architecture alone is worth keeping these buildings around.
Reguardless of your thoughts on Masons as a group they do a lot of good in communities all around the country.
