Why All the Fuss Over Jack White ???

Having your name on the side of the building kinda takes away the anonymous part.

Guys this is a nice venue. I saw John Mayall there. Anonymous or not, I'm pretty sure none of us can pony-up $142k to save a majestic place and get our name on a building.
Jack White grew up in a BAD neighborhood and he got out and has a chance to give something back. He gets full marks in my book. OUTSTANDING!

On the local news today they stated his mother worked there as an usher, he is familier with the place growing up. It is also worth noting he did it anonymously and was outed.

It's a very cool gesture that White has made to bail out such a magnificent and historic structure, but, I hate to see him bailing out the freemason weirdos like that. Perhaps it should be in better, more responsible hands to begin with. It clearly needs and deserves better management.

It's a shame that celebrities/artists do all of the good things in the World like rebuilding, humanitarian efforts, bring attention to important causes and actually get them done.

No fuss for Jack White in my house. Not a fan of most of his stuff, although I can take Dead Weather in limited doses.

1st of all The White Stripes ROCK!!:banana:

2nd Jack White has an amazing voice.

3rd what a selfless thing to do for his hometown! :D:thmbsp:

OK, while I'm all aboard here with what Jack did, there seems to be some need for clarity on what really happened here.

Jack didn't save the Temple per se; he saved the title of the building to its current ownership. It doesn't appear the Temple was in any real danger unless a new owner decided to turn it into condos or something. 1037 rooms is a LOT!!

The article linked below indicates that the Temple HAD been foreclosed, and that Wayne County assumed ownership and would auction the building off to a new owner in September. Jack intervening simply allowed the temple to revert to its previous owner. Hopefully, they can manage the future better and not allow it to fall prey to back tax foreclosures again in the future.

The article on the foreclosure from April..

Some temple info. The picture tours are pretty impressive 360 rotations. You have to rotate through them to find the Temple icon to advance to the next set.

Lots of cool pictures..

BTW, for the locals, they are showing Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" there Friday w/ live organ accompaniment. I saw it on the Event page. Looks kewl!!

Lotsa great memories from the building.I attended my first concert there. An acoustic preformance by Crosby & Nash.I would imagine it was somewhere around 1972.

UNLESS a new owner decided to turn it into condos or something ...... that seems to me that there was a potential for the building to be repurposed.

Kudos to Jack White.

I'm probably swimming upstream but I don't get it (his solo LP). To me it just sounds like the same old stuff. It just doesn't do anything for me, that's all.

Wow ... the guy does something great for a town he no longer even resides in, owes nothing to, a city that largely ate itself (corrupt politicians, corrupt teachers union, police dept, self eating auto workers etc etc) and a bunch of couch potatoes want to critique him for it. He should have kept his money and spent it on the latest UberDAC I guess. Sniff sniff "is this cork, le Chateau Ignoranc?"
