Why do I like Queen? Do you?

I think Brian May is one of the most underappreciated guitarists in rock. As several posters have mentioned, you have do dig a bit deeper than the "We Will Rock You" and other radio hits. some of my Brian May faves:

Brighton Rock
Now I'm Here
Stone Cold Crazy
It's Late
Tie Your Mother Down
White Man
Sweet Lady

I'd have to add '39 from A Night At The Opera to that group. It's a great acoustic tune and shows some of his versatility I think.

I suddenly remember that I like Flash Gordon - what should be one of the worst QUEEN :) what does this tell 'bout me

I've been into Queen since they were on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and The Midnight Special.

There was a lot of hippie rock out at the time and some glam like Angel, Sweet and others.Queen was definitely a cold slap in the face. Edgey, precise guitar work, soaring, well controlled vocals, operatic, tinged with classical arrangements. All that and with a tight professional stage show.

I think Queen was very influential in bringing classical stylings to what now is metal, as well as making staging and theatrics huge events.

Musically, maybe they could have inserted a different drummer, but they would have lost Roger's extreme high notes. Maybe they could have substituted John Deacon out? Freddie and Brian???? No way. They have a permanent place in my collection.

Don't know what's to hate, musically, anyway. Freddie had a four octave range. That's impressive, to say the least. Pretty much any other band member could have been a lead singer for most rock bands - something pretty rare. Also, at least May and Mercury were both multi-instrumentalists, and they would swap piano and guitar mid song on stage! How cool is that?

I like pretty much all of their pre-synth stuff a lot. After that it's hit-or-miss, but they are definitely one of my favorites. Sheer Heart Attack probably gets the most playtime these days, but Also A Night at the Opera. I have most of their albums, and they all have tracks worth owning.
