Why I love AudioKarma, a very positive tale

Good day, everyone.

The final link in my system, other than some nicer cables, feet, and other extraneous stuff, was a really nice table, one that didn't have 40+ year old caps, issues, etc.

I had to pass on that lovely Thorens another AK'er here has that has never left the box, but later that week, AK'er hirscwi presents a battered, but functional JVC QL-A7. Having experienced this table at my friend's home, then watching helplessly as he sold it for 100 bucks (WITH a Pickering XSV3000) without asking if I wanted it, I was determined to get this table.

A fair price was offered, I showed interest, and then we started talking brass tacks. I was wanting a recap, but techs are thin on the ground around my home. hircswi offered to recap for me, and couldn't have charged anything for the labor, as the price was too low.

He explained how the plinth was damaged. No sweat, I said, I could take it to a woodworking place down the road. He offered to re-veneer, offering up some of the most exotic, gorgeous wood I've seen. Again, the price was stupid-low. I settled on the red gum. Wife and I both love it.

The rear mount for the counterweight had the sag issue. He offered to fix it. And, he did.

Table was offered without original headshell. He found it, and sent it.

He also helped me procure feet for it, and generally was about as helpful as someone can be. Packing was top notch, and the SINGULAR snag was the shipping bolts I wasn't aware of. Needless to say, the table spun better after those were removed, lol.

How one approaches selling an item varies. I will state that this is by far the best transaction I've experienced, and I've had some great ones (and a few not-so-great). It speaks volumes about the character of this fine AK'er.

I just had to share this with you all. @hirscwi hats off, my friend.

Here's the gal in my home, temporary setup. I still have to finish buffing out the battered dust cover, but I'll get it clean and shiny.

Yeah, I just sold my 1250, and decided I may be keeping the 1010. Its lovely blue glow pleases me greatly, and it doesn't sound too bad, to boot, lol.

I cant see why you would need more. My Kenwood 8010 is so overkill.....but I love the dumb thing.

Lol, "need" hasn't had anything to do with my hobby investment in decades. As I told hirscwi in a pm just now, I'm at the point where I want to find the record du jour, clean it, pour myself a big ol' glass of wine or beer (depending on my mood) and settle down on the floor (always been a floor person) and wrap up in my big ass body pillow, and ENJOY the tunes.

This table is so ridiculously rock solid on pitch, which is very important, as I am cursed/blessed with what may be perfect pitch, or maybe just very developed relative pitch. I hear fluctuations nearly instantly, some as small as a 1/4 of a step off or more. Hence my love of DD tables.

Here's another picture of my new girlfriend. Literally, what hirscwi sent me after finishing the re-veneer. Never heard of red gum before, but I'm a fan. Wife wants FLOORS like this, lol.

I am so hooked on streaming I took my Marantz 6150 and put it in the closet. I have my Marantz SACD player on my front system and never use it. The bedroom systems just use streaming. Spotify Premium is so cheap and sounds good enough for me now.

Don't let your wife see the Redgum Audio site. (No link, lest somebody report my post. ) The gear has a face made of Redgum wood, sawn and finished in their carpentry shop. Even the racks are beautiful.

Totally feel ya on that. If my internet was better.......maybe. I was thinking last night how I have so many cd players, since they're very affordable now.....but they rarely get used.

But..........it's so affordable now !!! I did ditch the cassettes, tho. Man, I hate those troublesome, generally terrible sounding things.

I have a couple Sony SACD changers with remotes in the closet. My old Taurus has a CD player so I keep CDs for it.

My wife's Scion has Bluetooth so she streams Spotify whenever she is in it.........I dont even use iTunes any more.

Crazy how streaming has changes music.

Got the dust cover presentable, not perfect, but vastly improved. Also, got those feet to work with a trip to the local hardware store. They ended up looking great, just like Bill said they would.

I wanted to ask anyone with knowledge - is there any way to dampen this tonearm that has historically improved sound?? I was considering this question last night, because I usually go to the hardware store and get some small washers and slide over the arm, usually 4 or 5.

It seems to help some. All advice and opinions welcome. I even considered doing the shrink wrap that I once did on a yardsale Technics SL1301 (which I should have kept) and it looked very nice, but the heat got.....well.....hotter than I wanted for those frog-hair wires inside.
