Why I love AudioKarma, a very positive tale

I wanted to ask anyone with knowledge - is there any way to dampen this tonearm that has historically improved sound?? I was considering this question last night, because I usually go to the hardware store and get some small washers and slide over the arm, usually 4 or 5.

It seems to help some. All advice and opinions welcome. I even considered doing the shrink wrap that I once did on a yardsale Technics SL1301 (which I should have kept) and it looked very nice, but the heat got.....well.....hotter than I wanted for those frog-hair wires inside.
I wrapped the barrel of the arm with Teflon tape. It doesn't dampen in the traditional sense but since the hollow tube has no stuffing inside I found this to help slightly (or maybe it's my imagination, I'm not certain but it doesn't hurt anything).

I have done that previously, and I do like how light it is. I think I'll go this route first, see what happens, then maybe try my plumbing washers again. That really seemed to work well, but looks ugly. With the teflon tape (plumber's tape, isn't it??) it kinda reminds me of high performance headers wrapped in ceramic.

Which is badass.

BTW, did he add any clay or other dampening material while he had the plinth apart? I've thought about doing that to mine as the plinth is by far the weak point of the table, but since I wall mounted it there really hasn't been an issue.

He did not, best I can recall. I cannot hear any noise coming thru, just sweet analog glory. I'm exceptionally happy.

What a great story and a very sweet looking TT Tim!!!

Why thank you, Ron !! Hope your wood situation is going well, I think we're in for a cold winter. Also, your reply reminded me that I need to spin that Waysted album you sent me so long ago, lol!!

Totally feel ya on that. If my internet was better.......maybe. I was thinking last night how I have so many cd players, since they're very affordable now.....but they rarely get used.

Grenadeslio is always talking about those Sony players, and I bought one, and honestly, it is a real fine player, never ever gives me fits, never skips, and likely would be all I need.

But..........it's so affordable now !!! I did ditch the cassettes, tho. Man, I hate those troublesome, generally terrible sounding things.

I agree....cassettes (and 8 tracks) have to be the worst medium for music. I think there will be a renaissance for CD's one day though (just like vinyl). I've been buying them up at around $1 a piece.

Truly, one man's trash, and all that.

Due to the Half Price Bookstore nearly THROWING records and cds my way at ridiculous pricing, I'm actually set for the rest of my life. I did some math, and it saddened me to know I will never get thru it all. Did the same with my personal library awhile back.

We only have so many trips around the Sun. Make them count, everyone.

This is so true!
