Wich JBL Model are these ?

Hello a few Weeks back i got some old speaker pair i assume they are Stage speaker cause on the back you can just put in a 6,3mm Mono Jack on the side is a Plague that says James B. Lansing i think they are from the 70s/80s ?

The sound is one of the best i heard im a while i run those bad boys with a Yamaha C-2a and a M4

I just want to get more Information like what are the original speakers ?
Maybe DIY just with an old JBL cabinet ?
Is there any price range i want some Pieces of information.

And the most important question of all would it be worth to build a new Cabinet for them or is that more a waste of time than like upgrading the damping from the inside and stuff like that ?

The owner i got them from ghosting or just dont wanna get it touch with me and yeah i got them for freaking 0€ insane in my mind.

I posted it first on Reddit and some say its a 075 Bullet tweeter with d130 Woofer
And when i google the speaker i get to the end and it looks like these are JBL C38 Barons
i will check that in the next days to see if the speakers at least are the right ones
Is there any JBL expert here who knows what these are ?

very nice find

they look like sound reinforcement speakers for the European market

the tweeters could be either 075 or 2402, woofers look like D208 (8") or D123 (12")

If D130, they would be 15", did you measure them?

If you're inclined to mod them anyway, why not pull the drivers and post photos of the rear?

I see similar sound reinforcement speakers from JBL (only) occasionally here indeed (NE Europe), but have never run across an MTM setup like that.
I can only guess where these were built, but looks like a decent example of its time/for its purpose to me. As far as I know JBL products were USA built at the time. But perhaps a series that was more heavily marketed over here.. I can only guess.

If you want to build a better looking cabinet for home use; why not. (Keep the original cabs though).
If you want better performance, I'd recommend to go another route than cabinet modification;
A. If it's about bass presence/performance: The woofers in your cabinets don't run that low.
I'd add subwoofers and (perhaps as a next step) experiment with applying low cut (DSP ideally, to also correct some of their likely frequency band issues) to the JBL cab to offload lower frequencies and making them shine across their natural performance range. What the correct crossover frequency between de subs and JBL will be depends on your room and the subs.
B. If it's about frequency band issues: Again; DSP correction.

P.s; Keep 'em if you like 'em. And keep them as they are! You can't get anything remotely similar for the money you'll make from selling them or parting them out.

P.p.s; I got these ideas from my silly PA speaker party/home cinema/gaming corner setup in case you're wondering.

Ok so i checked the drivers and they are 075 Bullet Tweeter and a D123 8Ohm woofer
Overall they sound amazing

I dont have any problems with bass or anything they are really bass heavy i would say and yes Heavy Metal and all that stuff sounds so good its kind of „live“

I just thought about a new Cabinet for them just to fit in my space and they had a rough time they dont look sooo good anymore want something thats a bit fresh new looking haha

Yeah im gonna do that i think to build something new would be a lot more painful than just keep it like it is
Is it a good idea to like change the wool inside? They are pretty rough lookin and Yellowish
Little edit: could it be that this is Glass wool?


What DSP yall prefer for JBL‘s are there some hidden gems ?
I will try to measure them to get a Frequency response to see what they capable of and where i could improve
 
They weren't custom speakers, i forget the model number but they were made for commercial use only, much like the Bose 902 were similar to the 901s but for commercial use.
 
The grill cloth looks like Fender colors/pattern.

They look like 1970s-era JBL extension PA speakers. Those often had Fender-like grilles with large orange JBL logos.
