I was given a pair of As-103 speakers that needed a bunch of work done, I have gotten the work done on them and they look original and are functional. However I gifted them to my Dad and they seem to be very quiet. With the money spent at the professional speaker repair I want to ensure they are wired correctly. I will post a picture and see if helps get him powered up and running smoothly. Beauty set of speakers we before my time. Hoping for an idea of which terminal to power and the ideal preamp, new to all this older equipment

The AS-103 was Heathkit's version of the AR-3a. Good speakers. Can you let us know what equipment you're connecting them to, and what outputs on the amp/receiver you're using?

When you say "quiet", keep in mind that AR3's are incredibly inefficient. ...and they are 4 ohms.
I wish everyone would use an SPL meter (even a not so accurate one) and give numbers.
A pair of 85 dB speakers paired with a KT88 SET, while not LOUD, I wouldn't describe as quiet.
"quiet" makes me think something is not right, but it could be it's not over 100 dBs.

I threw that out there because some people determine a speakers "loudness factor" by the position of the volume knob. With these speakers being 83 db/w, the knob will have to be turned up somewhat more than with most other speakers. Not knowing how he determined what "quiet" is, I thought that might help.
