Wisdom Teeth

I had my wisdom teeth ripped out of my head yesterday. Feeling sore this morning but otherwise doing OK. I thought the dentist was going to dislocate my jaw in getting them out.

How many of you have gone through this. I should have done this years ago.

Had all 4 of mine out in the same visit some 25 years ago. The upper two came out easy, but the two in my lower jaw were impacted and coming in horizontally. The oral surgeon had to put me under, break those bottom two up and remove the pieces. My jaw was sore for 3 weeks, but other than that my extractions went very smoothly. You'll hear lots of horror stories. Just be sure to religiously follow the oral hygiene instructions you were given, and you should be okay.
 
Hi Jess, didn't they put you to sleep for that? I had all four removed about 25 years ago and ended up with a dry socket :tears: and it ached like heck for about two weeks. They put me to sleep for the ordeal and they were impacted. Hope you feel better soon, Bob
 
I'm getting my mine out in December. I'm going be mad if I am still getting better over Christmas or my birthday.
 
I had mine done in my early 20's. Between the valium injection, nitrius oxide and Percocet it really wasn't too bad.

I had a molar pulled one time with a local injection. It was awful!! Hope you feel better soon . . . looking forward to next week!!

Request that they put you under . . . I made sure they pulled all four because I knew I would never go back to have the rest pulled after that!! Nice knowing ya! :D

Yeah I know. I was horrified when the denstist said you can request to be awake the whole time. I was like "WHY?"
 
Had mine done, 2 at a time, about 20 years ago (when I was in my early 30s). One of them was bad - I was under local only, and it's not good when you hear your dentist say "Oh, f#%$" when he's working on your mouth. One post-op infection as well - follow the instructions!
 
I had all four of mine done about five years ago in one session. The dentist said they were the worst he's ever pulled without having to surgical extraction - and they weren't even impacted. Somehow the roots had curled and had a death grip on my jaw. Glad they're gone, though.
 
Oh my gosh Jesse! I know what you're going through. I had the last one removed 8 years ago and I almost died, literally!! I went to my general dentist who said he could to the extraction, no problem.

He got in was drilling it out to break it and the air from the drill went into the nerve canal then into my neck and my chest. My neck had a HUGE bubble in the side of it. He immediately called a maxillofacial specialist and sent me over there where she proceeded to RIP the thing from my jaw! I swear she was standing over me with what looked like the jaws of life trying to pry the damn thing out!! Once she got it out she told me to continue to "express" the air bubbles in my chest and neck and if the "popping" and "cracking" wasn't gone from my chest to call in the morning.

Well, needless to say it wasn't so they sent an ambulance to my house and I ended up in the emergency room with the doctor telling me how freaking lucky I was to be alive! He said any one of the air pockets could have gotten to my heart and killed me! I guess because I kept pressing the air up and out it never got close enough to my heart!

I had mine done about 30 years ago, all 4 impacted. I had the choice of having them done in the dentist's chair and my insurance would cover 80% of this outpatient service. However, if I got it done inpatient, insurance would cover 100% (of a significantly more expensive procedure - go figure). So, I checked into the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of New Orleans in the evening for surgery the next morning. It seemed as though I was the only non-cataract surgery patient there (cataract surgery was a big deal back then). They put me under General Anasthesia in the morning, yanked the teeth, and I checked out of the hospital later that afternoon. I took a cab home and proceded to self-medicate until the pain receded.
 
All four at the same time , boy did it hurt ! I was in my early 20's and figured if one needed out then do them all and be done with it .
Once the stitches were removed it was a lot better . Still had bone pieces for a few months after that worked out .

I had two done last year. I was stressing hard over the whole thing. Right up until the time I was getting ready to go in the back I was debating on whether or not to get put out. I decided not to. I sat down in the chair and the oral surgeon was done in 15 minutes. I didn't feel any pain AT ALL! I didn't really feel any pain the next day or any of the days after either.
 
mine have given me hell. i found out that local aenesthetics dont work on me due to tolerance, and i had my last one out about 3 months ago, as it had become abcessed. pulled it out stone sober. the experience wasnt as bad as the pai nthat followed, but a healthy diet of oxys kept me goin.
get em out early!
 
Had all four of mine out, years ago, because they were starting to become impacted and giving me a little pain/trouble, and I was about to move to Hong Kong and was skeptical about the quality of dentists here. Done under general anesthesia because of the number involved and what had to be done to remove them, but I remember afterward being sore-in-the-mouth for a few days. The first day was the worst, but it healed up fine, though, in the end, and hasn't been a problem since.
