Wisdom Teeth

Couple months ago - I even posted here about it. Took about an hour for all 4, including one on the nerve. Best advice: get the nitrous and do the rinses.

I did it at 37, last year. Have em put you under next time! I only woke up once when the surgeon was really yanking on one!

I was out for about 5 days. It sucked, but I was pretty well drugged up.

...I should have done this years ago.

Same here. Had mine done when I was around 40. Should have done it years earlier.

Utterly, completely effortless, uneventful, painless. Zero pain, zero discomfort of any kind. If you need to have this done, don't put it off. Your whole mouth will thank you. And I needed oral surgery to get mine out.

Had mine done the weekend after I graduated high school-Mine were all impacted, coming in bassackwards, etc. Spent 2 days in the hospital-Sore for a few days after that. Be VERY "religious" in cleaning out yr sockets, use the mouthwash they give you, & you oughta be all right.

When my dentist took mine out 30 years ago he gave me a script for Phenophen. Phenobarbital, lots of Codeine and Acetaminophen. When the freezing came out I wasn't feeling any pain.

First and last time I did them, glad they were there though. :D

Cheers

not having any dental coverage for much of my life,i've had mine pulled out as needed...last one was about a year ago[i do have coverage now LOL].my dentist sent me to the surgeon for that one since he didn't want to tackle the twisted up roots...the surgeon gave me the usual local and had it out on the first pull,i spent longer filling out the forms than i did in the chair!never had any problems after on any of them, they use dissolving stitches now,so no need to even go back for that.

alltho i didn't have them out,i did have some issues in my teens and twenties with them being impacted...i'll tell you this,if they bug you even a little, get em out..you can see the resulting forward tilt on my remaining teeth as clear as day on my xrays..over the long term they shifted everything slightly just like braces do

It was hurting more this morning but tolerable and have only been taking ibuprophen. Right now I feel pretty good with just a bit of soreness from the dentist working me over. No incisions, just dug and pulled and twisted and pulled until he finally got them out. Not something I would want to do again by any means but I am glad they are gone.

I took two days off from work since I have so many sick days accumulated and I did not want to use my time during Christmas break to get it done. I wanted to enjoy the holidays and not have to deal with this at that time.

Fisherdude, your halloween avatar pretty much sums up how I probably looked after the procedure. :D

Had all of mine out 10 years ago under general anesthesia, all impacted plenty of hydrocodone later followed by a root canal and gum surgery & more hydrocodone but no problems.

I had all four removed when I was 18 or so. They were impacted and pushing against my other teeth. I remember the Dr. gave me some pain killers, but said not to take them with alcohol. I chose the latter. :D

I remember back in high school a friend of mine had all four removed at the same time. She looked like a chipmunk with a mouthful of nuts. Probably not the best time to sneak into the alligator farm. We had to carry her out.

:D

Had mine done at age 20. Needed general anesthetic, an IV drip of Valium, surgery and a water hammer to break up the pieces.
Pure, raw, agony. The painkillers didn't do a thing for the pain, but made my eyesight totally out of focus.
I lived on baby food for two weeks. I hope to God I never see Gerber strained peas again.

All 4 out at once, by an Air Force dentist. Awake for the experience. Took over 2 hours. Top 2 easy, bottom 2 impacted and had to be cut out. Got one dry socket in the mix. Clove packing is the pits. Had problems with molars and their gums ever since.

Good luck,
Rich P

Got all four out at once and was awake(sort of) for the whole thing. Great painkillers as I didn't feel any of it. It was very surreal as I could tell what was going on. At one point he grabbed on with a set of pliers and twisted and yanked. I could hear all the snapping and cracking but couldn't feel a thing. The doctors name was Dr.Blood...just the thing to inspire confidence.
This was just the beginning as I also (at a later date) had to have bone grafts put in my upper gum line...but that's another story...

I've had that happen when I was like six and had to have the extra teeth on the roof of my mouth removed.

:D

Pray enlighten us further on this one....(grin)

I had two impacted ones taken out about 25 years ago. The nurse was beautiful and as I was coming in and out of the anesthesia I tried to pick her up.

Yep, not just liquor gives you courage when it comes to these matters. :D

BTW, I was given no pain medicine and after a few hours the pain was incredible.

Had mine out when I was a kid.. one of them was a nightmare.. was locked in with twisted roots, and the dentist slipped with a tool, and sliced my gum on the lower all the way around to the front of my mouth. That took two weeks to heal up..

Worst I've had though was about 6 years ago, had to have a bad molar in the top pulled. Roots were crossed, and they went into my sinus cavity. The tip of the root broke off so the dentist had to slice part of my cheek and gums to get access to where he could put a hole in the bottom of my sinus cavity to try and find the tip.

He never fount the broke piece, and after a hour of rooting around in there, finally closed everything back up. I was in the chair for about three hours for that one tooth. It was the worst I've ever gone though. I was a mess for about a month trying to get it to all heal up.. insane pain for several weeks..

BTW.. can you believe I actually HATE dentists?

I have three of my four had one out two years ago. Lasted about a week for pain. Otherwise not all that bad. Hope you are ready for Next weekend!!

i remember that experience well. the two bottom ones were the problem so i went in and sat in the chair and got the numbing shot. after a few minutes, the guy comes in , sees that things are numb, and says, 'are you ready?', and i say, 'yeah, go ahead". from below my limit of vision he raises a hammer and chisel(i think, omg), lines things up and gives three quick hits, then three more, then three more and more. stuff is splattering around and it's beginning to hurt for real and sweat is coming down my face(i'm thinking, this is the state of dental "science' in 1970-a hammer and chisel?). then it's over and the debris is being sucked up and i'm gathering myself up and out the door . figured i'd wait till i got home to take the codeine they grudgingly handed out-big mistake; get on top of the pain, don't try to catch up w/it. pulled bits of tooth out of my mouth for weeks, but was glad to be done w/the aggravation of impacted wisdom teeth and glad the guy didn't fool around-he used the right tool for the job and got it done. my brother had to get up out of the chair-mid procedure- and drive 5 miles to a dental surgeon's office to complete his deal. nowadays, things are better; i had a bone spur chiseled out of the roof of my mouth a few years ago and had the sleep thing they do and i didn't feel or know a thing. do the right thing w/the post op care and stuff should be ok.
