Wollensak 8075 8 track won't play but will fast forward

Can anyone please help me with this? My Wollensak 8075 no longer plays. When a cartridge is inserted the motor does not turn. However, it will turn when fast forward is engaged. Before it totally gave up, it was playing tapes but slowing down after a while, and then eventually it stopped altogether. So far I've tried soaking the fast forward switch with deoxit, and replaced the capacitors and transistor on the speed control board but no luck. There are several wires going from the speed control board to the motor, when fast forward is engaged the brown one has 14v on it, and when released 0v. I don't know if that gives anyone a clue?

Thanks,

Nick.

Forum member Tourmax seems to be very familiar with this model of 8-track, so hopefully he will see this thread and offer his insights as to possible causes of the problem.

Hi. I should have said, I saw that thread already. I think it's incorrect, there is no relay as far as I can tell. The click referred to is just a mechanical latch that engages when the ffwd lever is pressed down. I am a novice repairer and am more than happy to be corrected though.

I personally know that Tourmax does not frequent this site anymore, but he can be found on the Steve Hoffman Music Forums under the name

I have an 8075 because of his enthusiastic posts and I love mine as well. I took the motor apart to inspect it and to add a tiny bit of oil to the bearing. It was trixy to reassemble but all is well now. I also purchased what was supposed to be the correct belt online, but it ran terrible with it, so I just dug one outta my spares box and all is well now. I agree Flightops could probably help you out, look him up!

I didn't know that he had been banned from this website according to the information shown on his member profile. Perhaps the OP can try contacting him as you suggested.

Smart guy and a friend to me, it's too bad he's gone. I'm aware of the reasons why but still a loss to AK I think.
