Not sure. I’d shoot Grado an email. Rich has always gotten back with answers in the past….Quick question - what thread size was used on the older Reference series bodies ? The one I recently picked up needs mounting hardware and I don’t want to rethread it..

Since it’s not all that old, there’s a chance it is metric. If I don’t find out tonight, I’ll call ’em up tomorrow.

Whatever you find out, don't go short on the screws. I got a nice DL103R in a panzerholz body with ruby CL (Soundsmith retip) for cheap because the previous owner used screws that were too short and stripped one of the threads. Longer screws was all it took for me to mount it securely.

Sent one more message, this time through their “4ourears” sales site and got a reply that seems a bit weird… It’s early so maybe whomever replied didn’t have coffee yet.
Apparently though, it uses a 3-48 thread and 3/8” long screw.. Late ones are supposed to be 2.5mm thread x 8-10mm.
Need to dig - maybe I have some 3-48’s here..

That is what AR XA original Headshells take, makes sense.

Well, I found some 3-48 screws with a NOS Empire 880P cartridge and that -is- the correct thread size for the older Grado Reference series woody bodies with the big G on front. The screws I found fit as far thread size but are too short, so I ordered some 3-48 3/8” long stainless Allen button heads.
I think the later Statement (series 2?) and current 3 series woody cartridges should all be threaded 2.5mm and use screws 8-10mm long.

Sending my original wood body Platinum out for a retip, it's been waiting long enough. Had the Denon DL-301 re-tipped a couple of yrs ago by Joseph Long so sending him some more work.
These were both damaged by the Maidinator about 7yrs ago on her first day, had no idea a house cleaning was $700 lol.

What I like about them: beautiful design, smooth rich sound
What I don't like about them: unshielded, large size and high mass--difficult to pair with some headshells and arms, same bonded elliptical used all the way through the $600 model
I'd love to try a higher end one some day. I know they have potential, but I have also been frustrated by them before.

I was considering using Andy Kim who’s relatively close by me, a few hours North. He seems to enjoy a good reputation as well. Calls his service “Needle Clinic”. I may send him a couple older Grados I have here, a Signature 8mr which also looks like your maid got to it.. and a tan XF3E+. Those should tell me something about his workmanship. I’ll probably ask him to do aluminum cantilevers with nude elliptical tips already on them. Those should sound like the originals on those bodies; they were also nudes.
BTW - If you check out the Orbray (Namiki) website, you’ll see all the cool cantilevers and tips they offer.

Well I can already tell you the Denon sounds excellent as it was re-tipped about 2yrs ago with a nude elliptical, will most likely go the same route with the Grado.
