World Cup 2014!

So whos watching. Im a big fan. Have watched every world cup since 1982.

Great series documentary last night on espn, US Soccer march to brazil, will replay thursday night on espn2.

Im hopful of US Chances to get out of the group play and into round of 16. But they have to win the first game against ghana, which is thenteam that eliminated them in 2006 and 2010. So thats a huge huge match with lots of history. If we win that game then you have to hope for a germany win over portugal or a draw, setting up for our second match against portugal wher a tie or possibly a win would put us through.

The last match against germany is wher we dont want to have to depend on a good result so we need to get those points against ghana and portugal. While the group is tough the schedule couldnt be better by playing ghana first and portugal second.

Somobjective one is getting out of the group. Anything that follows is gravy. But would be great to see the US get to the quarters or semi.

Cant wait.

It is always fun to watch the best of the best, so I will watch. It will be interesting to see how the cup goes in Bazil. As Canada in not there I will cheer for Argentina.

I have brazilian blood in me. But i think Argentina will win it. Stars at the age of 26 have a habit of winning world cups. Maradona in 86. Zidane in 98. Messi is 26.

I would of like to see Canada qualify, maybe next time.
There are three teams that I like and I will be watching, Italy, Portugal and Germany.
Germany and Portugal are both in group G, which is not ideal if you are watching these two. USA is quite strong and has a very good chance to make it to the second round.

One team to watch, Japan in group C, they might surprise lots of people.

Really looking forward to it,will watch every single game broadcast (and that will mean recording quite a few of 'em).
Have watched every world cup since 1986. In my opinion,Spain will most likely win the tournament.

When you are the world champion at this sport, you are truly the world champion. No other sports in the world has this distinction.

Too bad you have missed the worlds greatest sporting event your whole life.

You mean that game where sometimes the fans kill each other if their team loses?:scratch2:

At least in the US after a major sporting event they just roll cars over and burn city blocks.:thmbsp:

You fail to understand one important factor:

American major sports leagues have about 30 teams.

Soccer has THOUSANDS of professional teams in every country in the world.

So ther are thousands of matches in every corner of the planet every week. Meanwhile thee are a dozen or so nfl matches a week for 3 months a year.

So thats why you hear about incidents on occasion. Its a numbers game. If there were 5000 professional nfl matches every weekend i bet we would see more incidents.

So next time you say something silly think about the reasons first.

Ps: http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/20/justice/california-dodgers-baseball-beating/

Pps: americans parents are known for their violence in their kids little league matches. Isnt that right?

So stop trying to make it sound like americans are civilized and others arent.

I think Spain has to be favored to win. I do like Argentina's chances too. I'm not sure if Spain has a striker / play-maker on par with Messi, but they have so much home-grown talent in La Liga that it's hard to see anyone else having their depth.

As a dedicated view of the Barcley's Premiere League, I will be rooting for England to at least get into the round of 16, and I wouldn't mind seeing them go as far as the semi-final. They have plenty of talent, but I don't see their style of play matching up to the pressing style and ball possession that is standard of teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid. (assuming of course that Spain and Germany will employ the same tactics as their dominant league teams use).

It will be fun to watch Paraguay, Argentina & Brazil and see how they match up against the top European teams.

And for all of you not invented here compatriots out there, the real football may be an acquired taste if you're accustomed to watching American Football and/or the NHL.

It really is a team sport, with no time-outs, no real coaching during the course of play, plenty of opportunities for stand-out stars, and unlimited finesse (see Lionel Messi and Barcelona et.al.).

Viva la World Cup.

I have watched every World Cup since 1974, I was a kid then. Germany is World Champion 1954, 1974 and 1990. This time our team may reach the quarter-final, perhaps even the semi-final, but the World Champion 2014 comes probably from Portugal, Spain or Brazil.

You are not interested in football, so what the f*** are you doing here in this thread???

I'm interested in ANY sport where the participants and fans act respectably.

Your "football" is becoming as bad as many US sports - sometimes worse.

If that irritates you, I'm sorry. The love of the game shouldn't overshadow the integrity (or lack of) displayed by the players OR fans.

In the 80's,there was helluva lot of violence and hooliganism in football over here in the UK,but how times have changed for the better.. It's much more of a family thing nowadays.

Oh come on. The only sport I can come up with that qualifies is golf,...maybe. Why the troll?

I am not informed about your "baseball" or your "american football" but I can tell you that with football generally everything is very fine. Football has billions of fans all over the world and of course unpleasent things happen from time to time. Amongst billions of fans and thousands of professional players there are always a number of morons making the bad news, but the fact remains that the ability of football to bring the nations together is a priceless merit of this sport.

Actually I don't need no exclamation marks when I use the terms baseball or american football because I deeply respect and even admire the excitement of the Americans for these sports.

That's all I have to say.

But Bradford and Sheffield were tragedies. Unforgettable tragedies! Paul our hearts bleeded then...

Nowadays a football game is indeed a very cheerful event for the whole family and most fans respect each other when they come together in the stadiums.

Yeah, couldn't agree more Chris. They were indeed tragedies which I don't think will ever likely happen again. Football has come along way with safety and hooliganism measures since those bad olde days.. And as you say,it's a fun event for the entire family these days where the majority of fans get on really well with one another.
