Would Technics SL-Q2 would be considered as upgrade?

I bought a Sl-Q2 for my girlfriend. I liked it a lot better than the SL1200 that passed through around the same time. That was DJ used and beaten to hell. The RCA jacks had been “upgraded” which I think was probably its biggest problem as whoever the previous owner was had I believe switched it out for just some regular stereo cable.

SL-Q2 was a very solid and good table. And importantly mine was in pretty good condition. Didn’t have the same life as a 1200 and was cheaper. I wouldn’t think it was much inferior to any of the other Technics offerings you listed.

You will also have many more cartridge offerings although there are plenty of advantages to a P-mount.

Where is the date of the ad? My mk2 is from 2007, plenty of time to address both markets. At the time, the club market was small, the consumer market was large.

November 1979. Here targeting evidently the 'pro' market and 'wannabees'. The SL1200 MKI introduced in 1972 was aiming for "audiophile" home use. The MKII came in 1978 with corrections of the MKI "flaws" and welcome upgrades of certain features. Suddenly these also proved to be suitable for pro use with high torque motor and brake, purely manual operating tonearm and damped motor and chassis.

The commanding price proved unbeatable in comparison of other transcription turntables. The reign of the transcription idler drive turntables by then was doomed for cost prouction factor, maintenance servicing issues and modernity pressure's sake. Affordable and plenty about the itinerent DJ sound systmes also adopt the MKII for their "nomad" ability to be 'flipped, rocked'N'shaked' whitout dripping oil or losing parts.

Hello!

I have spent some time reading the difference between the models of SL1300-1500 and SL1600-1800 and those are very good TT, but they are out of my budget.

SL-Q2 model comes up a lot. Im currently rocking SL-QX300 wit ADC PSX 30. Would SL-Q2 would be considered as an upgrade to my current TT? I cant really tell..... different tonearm - yes , but the weight is fairly similar and looks are pretty much the same.

I upgraded speakers + pre amp (cambridge DUO) - so im looking if i can upgrade something in TT department.

SL-Q2 would be an upgrade for you, and be able to handle far more cartridges and be more flexible.
