Which two Tannoy speaker do you prefer for overall Arden or Berkeley

So I just did a thing and brought this pair of Tannoy Ardens home to upgrade from my dynaco A25s.
Drove 6 hr through a winter wonderland rush hr traffic and white out condition's there and back .I was so excited and afraid to scratch them I picked it up and carried it to the vehicle myself as the gentleman had hurt his back.
Pure adrenaline and excitement the Ardens felt light as a father upon securing and wrapping it up and securing it in for its journey home I went back for her sister lol .
14 hrs later here I am at home at 6 am listening and not the slightest tired from my journey.

My wife is not mad at me she just said they are fricken huge not in those words and I'm not going to lie it made me burst out laughing,
Because deep down inside I knew she was right.
She is amazing and understands my love for my hobby .

Needless to say I have been patiently waiting for a pair to surface and they did at an incredible price I could not let pass.
So i pulled the trigger and the rest is history and my quest for my dream speakers is now over.

I never thought I would ever own these.
Just thought I'd share my day with you guys and girls.
Please feel free to share your personal story of finding and acquiring your dream speakers .
And if it was an issue with the big boss lady
I guess the next move is a tube amp hoping that wont be as heavy

My living room speakers are limited to about the size of a Large Advent. That’s why I have a man cave also.
If your wife will let you get away with the Arden I would go with those. Are you going to buy a pair of Berkeley as well?

I think the upgrade from the A25 is a big one.
 
Congrats, I think I can see your ear to ear smile all the way over here.

Show her some Westminsters and she might drop the notion of those being huge.
 
Had a similar reaction from my wife when I brought home the 5.5s. (No way you can hide a pair of those:)) Her response was "They'd better sound good." She was not disappointed.

And to think the general thoughts on the Tannoys is the cabinets are too small for the woofers. Glad you are happy and not considering making bigger boxes for them.
 
I had a colleague who was telling me he had a pair of Klipsch speakers, and since I was interested in vintage, would I be interested? I said, for sure, but I needed him to show me what they were. He thought they might be Klipschorns. We discussed a price and I said I needed to see some pictures before I commit.

In the meantime, I had been promoting Klipschorns with my wife. I told her they were big, and I showed her some pictures. She liked how they looked. I said, why don’t I get them, and we can try them out. If we don’t like them, I can easily sell them for the price I was getting them for.

About a month later, he sends me some pictures. Hmmm, these aren’t Klipschorns. They are Cornwalls. So back to the negotiation table, and we settle on half the price we were going to do with the Klipschorns. I set up a time and bring my son with me. In person, they were even bigger than I thought! We bring them home, and as I walk into the house, I tell my wife these are a little bigger than we imagined. We set them up in the middle of the living room, and proceed to test them out. They sound quite good! So my son and I rearrange the furniture so I can move them into their new home. My wife agreed to try them out for two weeks, and then we could decide.

After a week of listening to them, my wife says, these are keepers! All right! :)

About a year later, I got a pair of Sony SS-G7s. These were a thrift find, so there was no question of picking them up. I needed to find a place in my critical listening system in the basement, since the living room was full. I was able to, but it meant a little stacking. The critical listening room is basically my man cave. That is where I have a good chunk of my toys. So no issues about the Sony’s. Interestingly, the Sony’s are higher than the Cornwalls, a little narrower, and a little deeper. But basically the same size. And a little heavier, if I recall correctly. I am very lucky to have such a wife. I couldn’t have done this with my last two girlfriends.

Good for you. I got started earlier.

Here is my bachelor pad system circa late 1985. Those are 94" tall Acoustat 2+2s:

I happened to be dating a very smart and attractive young girl I met while ice skating. We spent lots of time listening to music. She reads music, plays piano and has a good voice. And became my wife. Thirty-four years later, we are using half width 1+1s in the family room HT where she enjoys her video content.

From that first house to our current (third) one, I have always had a space to place the music system. Even larger lurks there...

Naturally, she now has her own piano which provides enjoyment for both of us. It is a fabulous reference for the sound of live, unamplified music.

Huge???

At $600/pr delivered for one-offs, including a one-off electronic crossover and one-off passive units to go between the amp and horns, my wife was against it, but really had no say in the matter. These Super Big Reds were coming home.

In fact, she really has no say in anything audio/video-related. She knows that I will only buy if deeply discounted and has resale potential..., or makes me happy and keeps me busy.

I'm relatively new to this and the A25 where my second set of speakers I got and dont get me wrong I love them but i have crushed over these since i heard them and seen them for the first time.

Down the line possibly have a good listen to the Berkeleys and make a decision from there.

This is my first big investment into the hobby this far.

That was my saving grace was she liked the sound it produced.
And ya those 5.5s are massive lol
 
My wife drove with me about 6 hours each way to Connecticut to pick up my Polk SDA SRS 1.2tl speakers from a fellow member on here. She actually prefers them set up in the living room... I guess I’m a lucky guy lol.

This was a little while back. They’re now powered by a Pass Labs X250.

That's a great looking living room set up:thumbsup: I see she's also allowed you spike them right on the nice wooden floor........ or perhaps you didn't mention that part:dunno:

Could be worse...like driving 14 hours for something you don't like.....
