My wife's daughter, 17, is a great girl. She's been in Honor Roll since 5th grade. She's very active in the local church's youth activities, is in concert, jazz and marching band as a multi-instrumentalist (flute, clarinet, alto sax; also plays piano, accordion and guitar ...and isn't too bad on a trumpet, either!).

Anyway, she's been away for a week's Bible vacation getaway (I think it's called Centrufuge?) and part of the festivities included tossing all 'fuge participants names into a bin to pick out the big prize which was offered by the host college - this year it was University of Mobile.

Brianna just came home...busting to tell us all something. As you might have guessed, she won the prize. We had no idea the prizes were this...ummm... big!
Brianna won a $20K scholarship to UM!:banana:

Barb and I had been gearing up for Bri's college both mentally and monetarily. It was gonna be tight, but do-able. LOL Whew! Now, with this 20 grand headstart handed to her, Barb and I can relax. :D:tresbon::smoke:

Congratulations! :thmbsp: That is really WONDERFUL news for any proud (and lucky) parent! :yes: You must have done a good job of raising her, too. Great Karma, for sure.

Now go out and upgrade your system with all the money you just saved. $20K can buy some seriously decent audio gear! :D
 
That would be a great load off of any parents shoulder. A college edumication is a must in today's world. Now go out and treat yourself to a new piece of vinyl. :yes:

As a parent team (with wife) who has put one daughter through her undergraduate degree (she paid for her Master's), and is now paying for her sister and brother's undergraduate schooling -- I respect your being able to relax (some). <G>)

What luck and what a deserving daughter you have. Congratulations to all of you.
 
Pretend she didn't even get it, and keep socking the money away you would have spent. That way if you happen to have some "bad" luck along the way, you're covered.
 
20,000.00 will go a long way BUT it won't go all the way. Stash that away and build as much as you can. This will also effect her ability to get other Financial aide so be sure you all talk to the councilor at her high school about how to best make sure she's covered on all the other options for aide.

And tell her good luck she must have great Karma.
