Wrecked woofers?... Any DIY solution?

but rotten surrounds are fixable.
and something one should have in mind when dealing with old speakers. not really hard to replace eather.

Actually for KEF's passive radiators things are a little bit more complicated because they are oval and there are no surrounds kits available on that shape!

The BD139 1042 passive is very rare nowadays and the workaround is to get some B139 (notice the missing 'D') which are not passive, and remove the magnet! BUT, this is not all, to keep things original, my Candenza's are as pictured and the metal surrounding frame is polished and not all B139 are like that, some have no metal frame, some do have but it is not polished!!

Back to the Denton's...

Original woofers are not that common, they have a polished metal frame that gives the speaker its character, these even look like they were "re-surrounded" because I don't believe they were rubber ones from the factory.

wow the kef´s! i se what u mean! buddy of mine has some kefs with those B139 woofers.

the dentons i have seen (online) is rubberstyle surrounds. those on the pic yours?

Those are not mine, but they are the same exact model and they have rubber surrounds but I thought they might have been replace already, maybe not...

what ohms u get on the woofers?

I have not measured yet because I do not have a multimeter but these speakers are supposedly a 6 ohm model

i was thingking that if they meashure good the voicecoils might be ok. just heavy rust in the magnetic gap make them stuck.
if trying to fix those, first the whole cone assembly with spider must come out,
then there is the rust: i would try to fill a bucket with descaling liquid ( dont know the name) used in coffemachines it actually eats rust. put the drivers in,so the liquid drowns everything except the part that is visible when mounted in the box. this makes the finish ugly.

then there is welding of that broken basket, or it might work with some sort of hard soldering

then put it all back preferably with new surrounds. here it helps if you have a signalgenerator, but music works to. or chiming the VC for correct position.
