X2 safety caps for Dual truntables

Checking Mouser and Digi key , I see a few options but not sure which ones are the right ones. I,m looking for 0.068 uf 250v X2 safety caps for the switch box on my Dual 601. Im getting that "pop" on start up and shut down. Switch is cleaned so I,m replacing the cap if I can find the right one that will fit! Has anyone replaced one of these lately and would you have a part # for it? Thanks for any help!

If it's across the switch contacts for arc suppression you don't need to use an X2 cap.
 
Doesn't matter. X are for line to line and Y are for line to ground. Arc suppression is neither, and there's no safety concern at all if the cap fails. Worst case it fails short in which case it'll bypass the switch and your turntable will be on. No harm in using an X or Y for arc suppression, but not required.
 
interesting.... I have a couple 601 parts tables.... let me check whats in those . you are probably right but I might switch out one of the factory caps from the parts tables and see if that helps.

As far as I'm aware, over here it's nowadays required to use such X or Y type safety caps for caps, that are permanently connected to mains. Not sure, whether that also goes for the US, though.

Sorry, I don't know the exact requirements (in terms of capacitance values, leg lengths and grid spancings) for the caps of the 601 - but iirc, in addition to the anti-sparking cap in the switch box the 601 has two more caps on the pcb for the strobe light, which I'd suggest not to forget. And I'd suggest to also check the contacts of the strobe light.

Line to something, sure. In series of a line, not that I’m aware.

Do we know how the original cap is wired?

"line to line" or "line to ground" ?
 
Was having the same problem on a Fisher receiver. It was resolved by implementing the same cap to switch method used in a sansui au101. Had a . 22uf/ 600v cap laying around that was used. No more POP. Can see it on the lower left corner. Refer to the schematic.

There is the 2nd one in the main box but I forgot about the one in the strobe circuit. I,ll check that one also. In fact the strobe does have a tendency to activate a little slowly upon first start up, usually just after the needle drops , after that it will light up as soon as the lever is moved to the start position.
