I would not use an amp without crossover on them to test tweeters. Pitting low frequencies in them could over heat them. You can sub in resistor rs like R18 8 ohm 20 watt for blown tweets until you buy two more.

I'll remember this, thank you. As for those tweeters.....
I only had them connected for a very short while when I was trying to get them all working, can't possibly imagine that damaged them. Maybe 10 seconds?
Gonna suck if I figure out that I did this damage. Guess it could be worse, anyway, what is done is done.
Audio Classics has them for 50 bucks a pop, have to order on Monday, I guess. See here

XRT22 tweeters from Audio Classics is what I did.
I looked at audio classics. They wanted a fair 50 bucks per, but there were 3 left on that auction site, and I was afraid I'd call them and they'd say "Oh, we're fresh out."
In my experience, when a site says "Call to order" there's a damned good chance they don't have any. Also, 2 birds in the hand vs. unobtainium.
Happened to me before, so....I end up paying 40 bucks more for the two.

Physical in looks. But has a coating internally to damp resonance. You cannot distinguish at seating positions. With line arrays you always hear tweeter closest to line of sight to you ear.
Only NIB XRT22 tweeters were available from AC. You might scour up used XRT20 tweeters elsewhere. You can also buy Phillips tweeters and screw them to the custom McIntosh mounting plate. Lots of options.

Work and such has had me dragging, but I've got 1 woofer and 1 8'' out and clean, ready. The other 4 I've not tackled. Tweeters won't be here til next wednesday.
Thank goodness I snagged 2 off that auction site. I've contacted Audio Classics 5 times. Each time was told they'd call me back. Never did. Piss poor service.
Noticed those 8'' woofers are VERY thin. Taking my time removing all the old foam I can.
Here's a couple shots. My music room, upside down at the moment, but brimming with new potential.Another of the woofer, and a final one of that massive magnet.
I wish I knew why my photos are so small. They're 5 meg or more, and whether I go thumbnail or full, they never blow up much.

I had that experience at first with them trying to get an amp. So I bought off craigslist. . But later tries where more successful. I don't think Andy is running parts anymore.

Looks like they packed bass cabs well with insulation. My XR19s had little so I had to supplement. I wondered if they had decided to use less in later builds.So i brought mine up to the XRT20 standard. I must have had the 4 PM Friday insulation stuffer.

Yes they did, which did make pulling off some of the old surround quite easy.
Thanks! Yeah, I got a sneaking suspicion I might have caused the tweeter failure, but damned if I can see how. I didn't have it at even moderate levels, and for an extremely short time, with the bass knob on my test amp all the way negative. Oh well, 2 are on the way, and I'll write it off as collateral damage. I even dismantled one, checked the voice coils for signs of burn.....pretty copper coils with nary a hint of damage. ?
Applying glue to surrounds today. I've refoamed maybe 10 or more pair of speakers, but these make me very nervous. Taking my sweet time.
Is there any better implement than a thumbnail to remove that old foam?? And while we're at it, how anal are you guys about getting all that off?? I find I'm getting more and more fastidious about full removal.
