I wonder how expensive, is very expensive? Are we talking $200 to ship an amp? $400? If you're used to shipping domestically, I can see it being very expensive.. but for me to buy from the USA, it also seems very expensive sometimes.

i asked about a amp at hi fi do to here in ab Max 450 usd so would of saved maybe 100 bucks without adding the other costs

Made some simulations for an alpha 907 nra and guess what? Shipping weight limit of 30kg per parcel...
The 907 has 33kg!

And you would find the shipping was is more like 35kg once packed

That's a japan post limit. For items heavier than that they always use FEDEX OR UPS or whatever else they can. I had JAUCE ship me two 15" woofers and the parcel barely made it within limits.

I lost an auction yesterday for an alpha 607 NRA II. I heard good things about this little guy so I wanted to give it a try at the same time I was learning about their auction system without a lot of compromise ($$$)

But the worst was the reason why I lost it: the website did not refresh and I lose it in the final seconds... Funny!

But I managed to get a 607 MOS Premium. Older, nothing really special but good looking and in good shape... Will see better when it gets here...

I have purchased guite a bit on Yahoo Japan using Rinkya as a broker. They do a good job getting questions answered and will package appropriately with request (double box/foam). Personally I think it is best for more expensive items as you will pay $250-$500 for shipping an amp FedEx to the US (West Coast). Fees for a $1000 item will be about $80, $440 for a $5k item. Yahoo Japan has a feature to defeat snipe bids, when they happen they add time to the auction. I have found prices less than Stateside but when you add in the fees and shipping the delta gets closer. The big advantage is access to items that are hard to find here in the States and the frequency with which they show up is greater.

It was a nice 607 NRA II but the bid ended in due time, no extensions or whatsoever... It might have been a glitch in my browser. I was using JAUCE.

True! They have nice and quite rare units over there like the AU Alpha 907 and the likes. The 607 MOS I scored is not that small as I believed... The problem weights 19 kilos! Not 33kg but quite heavy for a little brother. This model has 45 watts per channel which is more than enough in my case.

When I have more time ($$$) I'll try a 907 NRA.... Beautiful beast !

I think its all worth it if its for a unit you really want. Rinkya pack things up incredibly well.

Living in NZ, we take it for granted that theres a bloody small second-hand market here, and this good stuff is only getting harder to find & more expensive by the day.

Yamaha CA-2000/2010, bid Y17000, total (bid/fees/shipping) AUD420
Yamaha A-1 bid Y1300, total AUD190
Pioneer SA-8800II/8500II bid Y10650, total AUD305
Luxman L-410 Bid Y5000, total AUD225

Always use surface shipping to AU, 8 weeks.

Biggest problem is australia post, if it weighs more than 15kg it gets dropped.

Trying to snag a AU-919 (AU-D907xxx) or a kenwood Supreme 600? maybe
a nice Luxman or... Was tempted to buy some NS-1000M's but was told
it's not permitted to ship speakers?

EDIT: Some rules I try to follow
- avoid low volume (few thousand) sellers, try to stick to high volume (hundreds of thousand)
sellers. Less likely to get discards from local DIY etc...
- avoid the Buy it Now price, it will be over priced. Possible exception is if it's fully refurb'd
and you must have it, eg a yamaha C-1.

I have used Rinkya 3 times over the last 2 years, Usually they double box heavy items and use high density insulation blocks to keep all snug and tight. No complaints from me, as the goods arrive home without any concerns. You also get the option to suggest the declared custom value at your own risk, specially if you paid stupid amount of monies on rare junk items.
