Hi guys, managed to score a Yammie A-1 stereo amplifier for the not so hefty sum of 110,- dollars.
It was a bit of a gamble, the seller didn't have any information regarding the state of the amp nor did he post any photo's.
His asking price was very reasonable so i made the jump. When it got here it was NASTY AF. Full of that thick brown sticky dust and the entire casing was covered in nicotine stains. After a good cleaning it kind of looks okay now.
After the cleaning i went to hook it up. It plays, but it sounds dull. Like a blanket over the music. Even after a couple of days, it improved a bit but not on a level i was expecting from the great A-1 amplifier.
So i want to refurb it a bit. Recap, new lamps, fresh relays, proper trimpots and new binding posts. I would appreciate any help from the guys that may already have done an A-1. Any and every tip or pointer is welcome!
