Yamaha A-S3000

Interesting the A-S3000 has two sets of balanced connections, one with an attentuator of -6db. I had to buy a pair of Rothwell attentuators for my A-S2000 so it would play nice with the voltage from my dacs. The 3000 is truly gorgeous and it looks to be a dead serious performer.
 
I'm getting one....just for the meters!!! Beautiful thing...And another heavyweight by Yamaha - 24.5kg..

 
The black one reminds me of the old Hitachi HMA amplifiers with the big meters like the HMA-8500mkII.
 
If you do a backwards inflation calculation, $5,200 in US dollars today is equivalent to $1,456.53 in 1978 US dollars.
 
Dave -- I posted same photo and my admiration of the A-S3000 here on SNA. Had heaps of "drooling" replies of course... But, one member replied and said "why MOSFET's in a high end amp?"..He liked the amp, but posed that question...Do you know what he means by that?

i'd have been happier if they went all out and used KZ caps instead of FW where possible. or even just FG (and KW may also be a step up on FW). still, it's clearly a notch or two above the A-S2000. a properly designed MOSFET amp really does rock, and given the rated power output and heatsink size, they can feed the outputs with a pretty solid bias.
 
Now up on Yamaha UK site. No price but there is info (in english) about construction.....

Was chatting to a few of the guys down here 'bout the 3K. One of the guys reckons that Yamaha have stopped producing the A-S1000 & 2000. Heard it from a reputable Yamaha distributor here in Sydney.

Dealer says he's got no 1000''s left and limited stock of the 2000 and that's it?? Dunno bout that - but I'm glad I picked up the 1000 if that is the case. It would seem to leave a very large gap between the A-S700 & 3K however...

Anyone heard of anything similar round your digs?
