...too bad it isn't coming to North America. I would probably find a way to "afford" one, somehow, some way!
 
I wouldn't be surprised if these CD and A S3000 units do show up here.

Isn't this what it is all about? Being tempted. Why else would I have no room for more. But still manage to rationalize. Good thing for vintage!

Agreed, the A-S3000 certainly looks like a fine piece of work and I'd love to compare it with its vintage grandfathers just for fun; maybe it's just me but I'm thinking that once I got over its good looks my ears would be finding their way back to what I'm listening to now ... :D

Yes Vint Age, would be fun to compare but being satisfied with what one has is better for the wallet. And at 5k, way too rich for my blood. And for those of us that may be lucky to have vintage FET or MOSFET Yamaha, less reason to covet new :D

There C1 pre-amplifier was something to play with and listen to ...

Maybe some separate never know Onkyo got some now ...
 
Phono stage will probably be excellent. Wouldn't mind a couple of those speaker terminals to update my 2010 (though they may not fit).

It should also be noted that this is the first time that a yamaha totl integrated amp has started with the number 3, the numbers 1 and 2 have been used in the past (3 only used on the 3020).

For the 'average consumer' a smart-phone is $300+ and $75/mon for the service. That's $1200 the first year and $900+ the following years (always need an app or two). Take out a low interest loan and you are golden if you give up the smart-phone. One must have priorities (like not having a smart-phone).

Probably..But the A-S3000 is an integrated. Just out of interest the B-1 Vertical Fet Amplifier cost USD$1600 in 1976. That's $6500 in todays money.

To be honest, I doubt it. Amps have come a long way sound wise.

Well sir there's no need to be sorry since I'm not disappointed. With all due respect I guess I'll just agree to disagree with you on old verses new; you're welcome to the new and improved and I'll stay with my tried and true to the source B-1 and B-2. :thmbsp: :D

I guess where we differ is that you seem to think that the folks at Yamaha didnt learn anything after the B1 and B2. They did not forget what they learned then, and are still learning and improving as they go. The best amp yamaha ever made is their next TOTL.
 
Amps have come a long way since 1976 and one would expect that. You may have seen my thoughts on the A-S1000 compared to my refurbed CA-1010. The current big Yamaha amps are very good. I think you would be rather disappointed if the current top models didn't outperform the 1970's equivalent. With respect to the B1 and B2 sadly I have not heard either. We will need to wait for the new breed of Yamaha separates to compare those...:)
