Yamaha C-1 and Denon DL-103R

C-1 Manual indicates a sensitivity of 2~8 mV "switched" on phono inputs 1-3. This MC cart is rated at 0.25 mV. Seeking input about an appropriate step-up transformer, if required.

I think a generic MC step-up transformer should work. Here is one from Denon and if you read the reviews on the page, someone used it with same exact cartridge you have.

could it be because it was built in 1974? when did MC come in?

1957 or thereabouts. Joseph Grado patented them. The Ortophon SPU was one of the first. Others are the EMTs. They were early adopters.

I guess Yamaha is no early adopter or was too busy making v-fets to notice that out of the three phono lines they fitted onto the C-1, none was suited for MC.
