Yamaha C-1 Phono section

Hopefully someone can help me out on exactly what the phono section of a C-1 is capable or not capable of. I know there are 3 phono sections but will it handle MC cartridges and impedence loading. I know the C-2x can handle MC and has impedence loading but I can't find enough info to confirm this for the C-1

Going by the SM (in the original Yamaha AK databse)

Although there are "phono input level" controls and the SM lists all phono as selectable 2-8mV, that seems to preclude the use of an MC cart, typical input is 50uV.

Phono 1,2 have Impedance (but not capacitance) and Phono 3 is fixed at 47k
 
So would I have to use a step-up transformer such as a Denon AU-S1 between the turntable and Preamp phono inputs? I do a lot with turntables but most of my Preamps are similar to the C2x which keeps things simple; all in one nice neat package. There are Head Amps, Phono Equalizers, Step-Up transformers.......I'm SOOO CONFUSED!! Too many pieces to the jigsaw puzzle. What would be needed to make a C-1 work properly with a MC cartridge?
 
The Eagle Wizard has two of them on his bench that he is checking under the hoods for me, so I can't see them to play with them at the moment. I was just offered another one but not sure I want another if it's going to get too complicated; to have 3 phono inputs is great but not if I can't use them. I have some MM cartrdges but they just aren't the same. Not even a Clear Audio Maestro comes close. I figured maybe I should buy it though to make my 3 B-1's complete:banana:

Just to get back on track with the original post; so I would have to get step up transformers for each turntable and I could run them into any of the line inputs. I guess that means the tuner, AUX 1 and 2 and the 3 Tape inputs. Just not any of the phono inputs. Are there any real differences between the terminology step up transformer, phono equalizer and headamp. I see the same products listed under any of these terms so I assume that if they did have different meanings, today the terms are used interchangably. Just trying to make sure I understand (and don't fry a preamp)
