Yamaha C4 just lost one channel

@avionic Hello awesome person! I am dealing with a somewhat similar scenario as the post title on a (new-to-me) C-4 - exception being it is the left channel out, but only on pre-out 1. cracked solder joint on the RCA port most-likely culprit? I also read in this thread the "selector switch" could also be a suspect - would that be source input selector chiclet or the button that activates the pre-out 1?

mine had to have been sitting a long time bc the balance knob and headphone level & jack were terribly crackly but cleaned up nicely and sounds fabulous now, but I would love to get both pre-outs working properly.

but only on pre-out
There is a reed relay for the output. Swap RY301 and RY122 around. RY301 is next to the volume control. RY122 is on the rear circuit board.

RY301 -- pre-amp output
RY122 -- REC out

If you recover your missing channel.

These reed relays can be repaired.

in comment #11 above you indicated that "1 and 2 use the same relay" - should I assume that because pre-out 2 is working that the relay is the least-likely culprit? or is it feasible that it is failing only on one output?

Regroup. I mis read your post. It might be the PRE-OUT 1 switch. Check solder connections on that switch.
Check all of the associated solder connections on the little paddle circuit board. That the pre-amp switches plug into. On the rear RCA circuit board.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! you are a very valued member here. stuck at work for another few hours but am going to investigate when I get home.

I'll check back in after I fart around with that switch.

Unplugging the pre-out-switch cable at both ends and clean the pins with an alcohol wipe.

Are you conus?

Maybe save you a few Loonies. :rflmao:
 my C-2a I bought out of Japan cost me ~600usd just for servicing so I knew what I was getting into.. but I have made a lot of progress on the C-4 with just a bit of deoxit and some googles. and now that I've had the tin off I am getting braver (with your assistance!)

MY MAN. I just got that LP 2 weeks ago! ofc had streamed all his albums for ages, but vinyl hits different. love Gord so much, what a life he led. recently fell in love with all the re-recorded UA songs on Gord's Gold.
