YAMAHA C80 & C85 PREAMP HEAT SINKS

3-way

New Member
I have noticed the heat sinks in the C80 & C85 preamps have a threaded hole for a machine screw. My C80 & C85 do not have the screws that secure the sinks to the PC board & they do move a little although the solder connection is fine. I purchased them used so is this normal or has someone removed them at some point.

None of them that I have seen have the screws in place which is kinda silly considering that they heat up and crack the joints pretty much always.
I always remove the transistors, clean the glue residue/corrosion and all of the old solder off of the pads. I use machine screws with captive washers and collared plastic washers from TO220 transistors to hold them in place. I got the screws and washers from parting out an old unit a million years ago and haven't run out yet but I know they are a common thread and the insulating washers are available through any parts house.
