Well, the price noted is about at the threshold already (IMHO). It looks like a nice one though.
 
$275?! I'm with Walker (wajobu). It's reached its peak, IMHO.
For reference, I paid US$150 (w/free shipping) for a 1010 three years ago in equally excellent condition.
The seller says he ships to the US. You're gonna need to have a mail drop or other arrangements over the river in NY, and then possibly deal with Canada Customs, taxes, and duties when bringing it home. Maybe.

Good looking 2010... shipping cost is very reasonable but might be more for you as stated earlier. I'd third the statement on the price...though you don't know if it will end for around $300. But these babies are getting rarer and rarer in that condition. Though I wouldn't call this one mint.... perhaps EX would be more realistic.

I got my 2010 the week before Xmas on that auction site for $125 shipped... I took a chance that in the listings pic the 'white stuff' on the face was just flat white paint.... and it was! And that one channel was cutting out now and then because of a dirty pot.... and it was!! Cleaned up very well and dexoit got the channel back .... I'm posting this pic of my babies (for the umpteenth time) for reference to that above fact only... and by no means to make anyone envious because I own these three amps. Never in a million years would have believed 30 years ago when I could never afford them... that I would ever own even one of them.... let alone all three... all in very good condition. Oh...and did I mention I'm posting this pic just for reference???:D

Accoustic, nice set. My CT-1010 is a fantastic sounding tuner. Too bad the reception is so poor vs other top tuners I have. Worth it when it does get a station.

Are those two CA-1010 or do you have a 2010? How would you compare the sound of the CA-1000 to the 1010?
 
Thanks Raynold... I don't need a DXer for the area I'm in but I know what you mean. I listen to one station 99% of the time (NPR) anyways. Those are a CA-1000, 2010 and a 1010. I got the 1010 first (after owning a CA600 from 1977 that got me into the Yamaha CA sound)... and I loved it. Echowars worked on the 1010 and I just figured it would be my main amp for a long time. Picked up the 2010 as stated and it was more power and had the sound characteristics of the 1010. I happened to see the 1000 sold here by Walker about a 1/2 hour after he listed it. So I jumped on it just thinking.... great I'll have all three amps I've always loved the looks of...never even heard one...but just thought the 2010 would 'be the one' I'd listen to most. Wrong.... the CA-1000 is the one. Sure these amps are over 30+ years old and I have no idea what they sounded like then... only now. I do believe the 1000 does have the highest damping factor but don't know if that is the major reason.

My jaw just dropped. That is a beautiful rack of Yamahas. However, I would be happy just to have one in the Bat Cave.

I gave my daughter my CA 610 II; my wife claimed my CA 810 for herself in the living room. So now I am looking for an even better Yamaha amplifier. It is interesting that you think that the CA 1000 is better than higher models. I would like to read more about that.

Perhaps more CA models will appear on eBAY and there will some price competition there.

This is makin' me sick. I had a CT-1010/CA-2010 combo along w/a B&O TT, a Yammy cassette deck that all got zapped by Lightning in 2000; I grieve still yet.

I have a CA+CT-810 in the bedroom.... and I live in a one bedroom apartment!:yes: My co-workers think I'm nuts... and I don't dispute them. When they show pics of there children... I whip out ones of my amps!!

I've purchased three Nak cassette decks here lately and taping jazz off of NPR. I just can't believe the quality of sound I'm getting. Hmmm... maybe it's the variable loudness?????:music:

Sandy I read your 2010 story... now I run those amps thru a power conditioner! I had B&O's in the '70's and '80's... if they still supported there carts I'd have one now ( or two).

The only common denominator we haven't mentioned in this thread is Polk speakers. I started using Merrylanders formula of Polks and CA Yamaha's. I believe he has (among others) Monitor 7's... I run Model 10's in the bedroom and Monitor 50's in the LR.
 
The only things that escaped were my WSC-1As. I still run them yet. I don't think a power conditioner/strip/any of that would have helped in my case-Apparently, our house took a direct hit. We were lucky it didn't catch the house afire. I remember that storm-I wasn't home, but I remember it was SO bad, the air had a "green" cast to it-it was around Dark Thirty when it struck, & the lightning was so bad, it looked like the middle of the day...

Any of the Yamaha Integrated amps from that era are great! I still have my CA-810 from 1978 (with variable loudness). The CA-1010 and 2010 do not have the variable loudness, but have Class A. The CA-1000 and 800s have Class A AND variable loudness and have a smaller footprint.

One must be careful with the Class A mode (especially the older model switches...as noted in many threads here). For sound, I'd pick the CA-1000; for out-and-out beefiness I prefer the CA-2010.

Alas, I have moved to "separates" for amps...but I still have my CA-810 (a nice lower cost alternate with plenty of power for my use).

So Sandy...what are you using for music these days since the demise of your Yamaha "set"?
 
I have written about that variable loudness before. I really loved it and used it all the time when I had the CA 610 II. Interestingly enough, I have left it on "flat" on the CA 810. I have not even had to really "fuss" with tone controls either. Is it possible that a more powerful amp just has better "warmth" or tone?

Wajobu, any thoughts on the sound of the CA-1000 vs the CA-800 and CA-810? The 810 is fairly common and can be had at a good price. The 800 is not so common but still sells for a lot less than the 1000. I liked the 1000 I had briefly but decided to move it and wait for one that was not so beat up. Maybe the 800/810 would be a good alternative. I do like the Class A option of the 800/1000.
 
Since I am not a tech (though a tinkerer) I let my ears do the deducing. And don't know what in the way of the combination of electronics in an amp contribute to the end result in sound... and the 1000 has the lowest power rating of the three...but the highest damping factor. I have listened to many many combo's of friends systems... especially back in the 1970's when a lot of folks returning from the military brought home rigs. Mainly Sansui, Pioneer and Kenwood. I had my 600 then and mainly listened to 'acoustic' music... America, James Taylor etc. but liked Zepplin and Boston also... and I am not a volume freak. They said they liked what I was listening to.... but when you looked at there LP's... it was Deep Purple, Foghat you get the picture... and there rig worked better with that kind of music (MHO). This one guy (who had deeeep pockets back then) came to me for advice in gear from a mutual friend and bought a CR1000. He absolutely HATED it. I don't know what he did with it but when I saw him a few months later he made sure he told me that the receiver had no 'boom'. I think he ended up with a high end Kenwood and a pair of Cerwin Vegas. And no doubt today is a happy camper with a Bose whatever.
 
Although I have not owned a CA-800; IIRC Merrylander has noted that it's essentially identical to a CA-1000 with slightly less power and a vinyl veneered case (versus walnut). It could be a nice way to get a "CA-1000-like" amp at a much lower cost.

Hmm...maybe I'll just try that :D

I think that is a very nice Yamaha. I paid $350 for mine plus shipping. I committed the sin of wanting a 2010 bad and finding one on eBay in nice condition. I refinished the case and am very happy with mine. I never seem to find the deals that you other AK'ers talk about. I always pay market rates (read eBay closed auction) or higher. I tend to look at pricing this way. What kind of an integrated amp can you buy today at around $300 - $350?
