Yamaha GT-2000

My thought was that it could be an easy way to power the TT here in the US and possibly get some sonic benefit at the same time. I was just searching for power supplies but I would need to know the specifics of amps or wattage and the type of connection used.

Got any links to one of these?
Go to Ya*** auctions Japan. Paste the following into the search:
Yamaha ヤマハGT-2000L GT2000X YOP-1
Currently there is one on page 9 at ¥6,250. The kanji (Chinese characters) for search are 商品検索, or 'product search', found within the black rectangle at the top of the page.
Some language info for those wishing to peruse the auction site: オーシェン = 'auction', AV, カメラ is the 'AV, camera' section, scroll down to オーヂイオ = 'audio', within the audio section, you'll see ターンテーブル (turntable). From there, choose the middle section 本体 (main products), then click on the various manufacturers.
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ may help with a loose translation.
A Japanese credit card and address is necessary to enable registration. My wife permitted me to use hers, for which I was greatly appreciative, albeit at the cost of losing a testicle.

Dead flat 24VDC would eliminate all possible mains driven hum from within the TT. I think it's the way to fly :)

Did you call them, or use e-mail? I've sent them four e-mails on a turntable I wanted to buy, and never gotten a response.

OT, are you using an Epsilon crossover on those Gammas?

The procedure to "buy" from HiFiDo is to click on the Add to Shopping List button next to the item. On the next screen click on the Go to purchase page button. On the next page enter your email address and click on the Send button. Someone from HiFiDo will contact you. If you don't hear from HiFiDo within a few days send an email with the item number to hifido@hifido.co.jp and give the date that you sent the original purchase request.

I'm using the Eplison crossover/servo unit on the Delta's, without the servo control (yet). Yes, I know I'm slow getting this done. :D

Mark-

What are you using for a step-down transformer? I have acouple pieces of 100V gear and would really like to use something better than the cheapie transformer I purchased from Audiocubes with my little Kenny integrated

(sorry for taking the thread down a tangent)
It's an Ariake UT-110W. It's compact, runs cool, and is dead quiet.

Here's a link to it.

Mark- How does this compare to the Yamaha PX tables?
I haven't listened to the PX-2 yet. When I got the table the linear tracking didn't work, so I had the PX-2 refurbished (including recapping) at Echo Audio in Portland. Since the PX-2 headshell isn't a universal type, I can't simply swap a headshell + cart from the GT-2000 or my Dual CS-5000 to the PX-2. And I don't feel like realigning a cart a couple of times just to test the PX-2. What I plan to do is buying a cart for the PX-2.

correction: after comparing the Oyaide universal headshell to the PX-2 headshell it appears that the PX-2 headshell is a universal headshell. I'll have to check out the Oyaide with the Zyx cart on it and see if it needs to be realigned.

Is that where you bought the headshell? No problems buying and shipping to the US?
Joynetmall is very professionally run. I ordered an Oyaide headshell, the step-down transformer and a couple of other items. I received a confirmation of my order and that it was shipped within 24 hours of placing the order, and I received the shipment in 3 days. Shipping was by EMS Global Express.

Thanks, Mark, that must be my problem. I had sent them a message by clicking on the "Ask A Question" button; wanted to make sure a specific function worked on the item I was looking at. Guess I'll wait until I see an item where I don't have any questions.

The GT-2000 is really beautiful, glad you are enjoying it. Very nice addition to your amazing collection.

Hey, when did you switch?

Theophile,

I thought you were running a PX-2? When did you go for this beastie? Why?

Peter

Well done Mark(and Spectrum77). :thmbsp:

There is room for tweeking with the GT 2000.
Naturally the stock unit is no slouch(That doesn't cover it.It sounds f***ing awesome as stock). My foray into tweeking the '2000 has been along the same lines as the PX-2 I was using previously:

I had used the SAP Relaxa 3+ magnetic-levitation stand(to good effect)under the PX-2.With the '2000 I had to try-out the Clearaudio Magix(8 of 'em).I feel that despite the rated load carrying capability of the Magix, the real number of them necessary is greater than the rating.
Given the results I am getting with the Magix,I would speculate that top-shelf isolation plaTforms like the Vibraplane,Minus-K,Halcyon and possibly the HRS would all bring benefits worthy of their extra cost.
I have also(as I did with the PX-2)substituted the stock mat with a Boston Audio carbon/graphite mat.In the case of the GT 2000 I use the Boston Audio Mat 2.There are cork/foam 'spots' between the BA Mat 2 and the platter.
As I see that Mark is using an aftermarket headshell(a very good choice. The carbon-fiber Oyaide).I'm using an Orsonic AV-1b.
A HRS 'Analog Disk' weight is the other tweek.

Enjoy your GT 2000s fellas. :D :thmbsp:

I have to thank Arkay(Thanks Mate :thmbsp:)who's glowing testimony of the GT 2000's sound quality convinced me not to upgrade my cartridge on the PX-2,but rather to go for the '2000.

The best decision I've ever made.

I'm not saying that these are 'The Definitive' tweeks for the GT 2000.It's just an indication of things that I have found to be additionally beneficial.

Congrats for the GT-2000, Mark. I've never seen one for real, as I'm almost certain that it was never imported in Europe.

And thank you for the correction, because I've lost the second headshell of my PX-2, and planned to buy an universal headsheel instead: now, I can go.

I would be very interested in the comparison between the GT-2000 and the PX-2, especially if the result is not too negative for the latter!

The Oyaide CF HS really jazzed me, but the price ($200) was a buzz kill. Added it to my wanna get list though.

It will be blatantly obvious that there is an element in the photos which I didn't mention in my previous posts.
The fishing-sinkers.
That's because it was an intuitive/unconsidered gamble. They are still in situ because the effect though only slightly different, was not detrimental, and it is easily reversible

If you run your mouse over the little 'Photobucket' logo on the right of the screen, the previous/pause/next icons appear over the display.
Enjoy.
Sharp-eyed viewers/pausers will see my Transcendent Sound Grounded Grid preamp, atop the Sap Relaxa 3+,which sits atop my EW'd Kenwood 700C.

Weird sight, but cool setup ! Does the styrofoam make that much of a difference ?

I really only use the styrofoam to dampen some resonances in the sheet of glass which is directly underneath the foam.

If you look at the pics carefully, you'll see that the '2000's feet aren't touching anything. The TT is actually sitting upon Boston Audio Tuneblocks(on the styro). The blocks have Tungsten Carbide balls which themselves contact Boston Audio Tuneplates. The Tuneplates have a wee bit of blutack to hold them against the body of the GT 2000.

I really should have another sheet of glass atop the styo.
The Tuneblocks would definitely work better if they could drain some vibration into a firmer surface. :scratch2:

The Clearaudio Magix can be seen supporting the glass foam shelf. :D :thmbsp:

Put some black cartridge screws on that HS. ;)

All seriousness aside though, any concern that the extra weight from all those lead balls might adversely affect the bearing?

Not with the GT 2000.The platter is solid metal. The thickness seen at the rim goes right through to the spindle.
That's one heavy hunk of metal. The sinkers are like a flea on an elephant's backside.

The headshell screws are the ones supplied by Soundsmith. They have the correct diameter and pitch to match the pre-threaded cartridge.
