Hi All
I wonder if anyone can help and I apologise if I have put this request in the wrong place (please redirect me if so). I picked up one of the above for next to nothing at a boot sale. As predicted the belts had turned to goo, so I cleaned it up and purchased a new set. I installed the main belt and the smaller one to the manual tape counter. The latter does not turn freely and seems too stiff to be driven by the motor, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get it to turn more freely.
When I tried the machine after fitting belts, everything engaged as should but whatever function I use - play, ff, rewind, the machine runs for 1 -2 seconds and auto stops.... I get sound, everything. Thinking it may be the counter (being stiff) I disconnected this belt and the wires that run from this and tried the machine again - I'm not bothered about the counter, don't need it, but I got the same problem - just runs for a couple seconds and then auto-stops.
My questions. There are wires and what looks like a sensor at the back of the counter, is this causing my issue - i.e. is it detecting something out of sync and stopping the unit. If so can it be fixed or bypassed? Picture of counter included
The unit cleaned up really well and I am keen to use it, everything else looks good on it but I'm a bit out of my depth if it is a sensor that requires calibrating etc..
Any help gratefully appreciated
