Hi There!

I'm trying to track down a particular micro-component system for Yamaha that was part of their 1999-2000 lineup. It was of extraordinary quality, had a slide out tray loading cassette deck, and an option to add a micro MD player/recorder. I looked through Yamaha's support and searched Google, but what I am looking for is pretty specific; not to mention old.

The faceplates of the pieces (they were all matching micro-sized separate components) were silver, and had a very simple layout.

Any help as to the model would be greatly appreciated.

Yamaha had a bad habit of not dating their product literature, but I have a few from around this era, so here are some guesses: CC-90 or CC-70. The attached image shows a spacer stand in the CC-70 system which looks odd, so maybe it was the location for the MD unit you are thinking of??? Myabe the MD player came out later?

I think it was similar to the CC-90. But not quite. But that helps me with a starting point. Thank you for finding that.

TRM-
Very interesting, so both the Pianocraft line and the Classic Line both had a MD player (MDX-E100 & MDX-9) and what looks like a tray load type Cassette deck (KX-E100 & KX-10). I do not recall if these were ever available in the USA. I like the industrial type design of these lines.

I own some very different mini-systems, the GX-5 and a TSX-10, both integrated designs instead of components.

Ripping off B&O design is a popular pastime in the audio business!

Hitachi of all people once made an all in one that was not unlike the Beocenter 2200. We sold both so it was hard not to notice where they got the "inspiration".

I do not know which came first, B&O or these Yamaha systems (or perhaps the Nakamichi or ???)...

I suspect B&O might have been first. I am a big fan of B&O styling in general, but not of their pricing (VERY HIGH PRICE here in the USA). I did break down and purchase the following B&O wireless phone system (the 2nd most expensive I have ever seen), but I look at it as part function / part art for my home.

I think you may be talking about a system that is currrently in the local thrift store. Yamaha mini components (model mcr-e100). It has a golden finish. Small integrated amp, separate cd player with single slide opening tray. MD inputs in the back in addition to tape inputs. Black speakers.

Sounds really good. It is near mint, they are asking $100. I'm sure they would ship as I know the owners real well. They let me bring the audio equipment home just to test it for them. PM me if interested in more details.

No - it was similar but this was a four piece with a cassette deck (single-well with slide out tray like a CD player has). And the MD component was optional.
 
I've been toying with buying this, based on a discount the owner gives me for volunteering to check out equipment, I could get it for $50-$60. Its just that I already own half a dozen systems. Maybe this one for my den???

That MCR-E100 is interesting (optical outputs, low impedance drive circuitry, ToP-ART heritage, sub-out, etc.). I think it is a great deal at $50-60. The mini systems from Yamaha that I have heard so far have sounded great, perfect as you mentioned for den usage. And, in this case, the base system is easily upgradable.

B&O was the first and way ahead of the rest with the BeoSound 2000, witch came in year 1993.

Yamahas TSX series started about the same time as the Nakamici Soundspace 1 (SS-1) from year 2000 (Yamaha 2002).


AND - LOL, I also have the BeoCom 6000 :)
 
I know this is not the system that Jody is looking for (I hope that one of the systems from TRMs PDF will be the one that Jody is looking for). This one is older, but it represents some of the long forgotten era specific components from when Yamaha was pushing YST...

If I can talk my wife into it, it will replace my boombox in the bedroom. I want to check to see if it has a remote control capability - don't want to get out of bed to shut it off (my Sony boombox has a remote). The remote is missing, but could a universal replace it?
 
Thanks for that PDF. I have a GX500 that I bought and took to college. It was cool to see it in the catalog.
 
Yamaha also made some universal remotes for their own systems. A few years ago, I bought one as a back up, but I am not sure if Yamaha still offers any.

YES it was! Thanks a million. It was the silver/gray RX-10 series. I was going to buy it with a pair of bookshelf Missions, and use it with my Revolver table (this set DID indeed have a phono section).

Gosh I thought that was a really exceptional mini-system.
