Yamaha MX-1? Compared to other TOTL Yamaha amps

Sorry about your amp, I know I hate it when my toys break. As for gain dials, I always have mine at full (including the amp in question). And was recently told that is not a good idea by someone who came over a few weeks ago for some audio swapping. But I think I'll stick with my "gains at full" program for now.
I have reread this thread and dont think I came off like I hate or dislike the MX-1, just like some other ones better. I am amazed though how I seem to be the only one, But I am :thmbsp: with that

bem obrigado,
Dirceu

Hello friends, my name is Dirceu and I live in Fortaleza, Brazil, I bought a CX2 and a Yamaha MX1, I'm using Monitor Audio RX8 with boxes, and I wonder if you can make bi-amplification and would like to do, I'm enjoying, clear sound and deep bass
well thanks,
Dirceu

For Biamping you will need another MX-1. If you want to mono-bridge... I was asking many, many different people about this, very controversy answers - so I decided not to bridge them to save their lives. Clear sound and deep bass? The MX-1 should deliver this imho.

Was it ever determined they (MX-1) were common ground and it was safe to bridge them?

I tested my pair of MX-2000 bridged well enough but decided to also not push my luck and decided to sell one of them anyway.

The MX-D1 is listed as mono capable. I wouldn't mind tripping across a cheap pair of them sometime.

Thank you guys for your recommendations. Still the 2nd MX-1 did not arrive yet, but there is a c-70 available I will aim on. This will be my first preamp, because I always loved to take the signal directly from my Onkyo SE-U55SX. If Anyone knows a simple and dicated unit for bridging, any recommendation is welcome. Beside beeing an dual-mono Amp, is the MX-1 bridgeable in general??? I mean, that I'm, going to connect two separate amps (in one case) "together" at the speakers, could this be good?

And on this way: sorry theokalat, that I did hijack your thread :worried:. How do you feel about the MX-1 now, one week later?
I know this is years out of date but someone reading this thread later need not be misinformed ... the MX-1 is not a dual mono amp, the transformers and rectifiers are effectively paralleled to supply the +/-75.3 and +/-32.6 HB and LB rails. I do think it is a lovely amp.

I've had two M-70s and an M-80 and an MX-1. I've never done any sort of comparison testing, but, although I love them all, I love the MX-1 the most. It just seems so effortless.
I have the M50, P2200, PC2002m and the MX-1 and guess whats my favorite amplifier.

I guess the MX-1, but only because the picture gave me a hint. I've never heard any of Yamaha's pro amps, although I've always wanted to try one.
Yep the MX-1, Yamaha pro amps were in fact their home audio with some tweaks to make them suited for commercial applications. The 2200 was generally used with the NS10M in studios. Quite a few owners here at AK will tell you their experience with the PC2002m and PC5000. The commercial title usually turns folks off and they get put in the same category as Crown etc.

Hi folks,
I just scooped an MX-1 off ebay in Australia for $200 today. Now anxiously waiting for delivery and that it doesn't get damaged by those gorillas at Australia Post.
I do have a matching CX-1 pre to go with it, but I also have the MX-2000.

Just wondering where in the pecking order does the MX-1 fit compared to all the other yamaha amps ever made since the 70's.

Some here have stated that the MX-1 is possibly the best power amp Yamaha ever made aside from the MX-10000.
Does that make it better than the B1, B-2x, M85, MX-1000 and MX-2000?

Has anyone had the pleasure to directly compare the MX-1 with other amps, and what did you conclude in terms of sound quality with the others.

I would tend to agree. MX-1 will be good. To really beat it you'll need to step away from the Yamaha brand and look for something from Threshold, Pass, Krell. Rowland, Levinson, or the bigger Parasound Halo amps. But all of those may be beyond your budget too.

Keep in mind too there are tons of upgrades you can do to the CX-1 to improve its resolution and sonics.

I am not sure if this is a late April fools joke….
Whomever thinks that the MX-1 is the next best thing aside the MX-10000 within the Yamaha’s lineup, needs to stay off the crack pipe.

I have owned Krell KSA250 as well as the Harmon Kardon Citation 24 and few other amps but apart from Yamaha MX1000/MX-1 and its expensive brethren, only Accuphase can match the sound.

So Yamaha P2200 vs PC2002m?
Did you do any modification to both amps ?

Have you had a listen to the yamaha VFET amps? Yeah, too rich for me, also a bit like hens teeth... maybe time to check out Yahoo/Japanese auction sites...

Krell and Accuphase make good gear. I am actually a big fan of both companies from the build quality standpoint....Superb built quality.
Things are different when it comes to sound. I auditioned some Accuphase TOTL system, read P-7500, C-3900, DC/DP-1000, driving 6-figure speakers. The verdict: powerful, but dull.. I tried to like it and had plenty of time to try different things, but it is not what I am used to....not missing anything in my system.

would agree, but many folks have not heard an SS amp from one of these brands.

Yes I have and hooked to a pair of NS1000x, fantastic sound but need more power.
