Any thoughts on these NS-1000 speakers? Are they worth the asking price of $625.00?

I wasn't in the market for speakers, but these would look good driven by my C-4 & M-2....

He started out at $1,025.00 OBO.....

Yeah, anywhere from $267.00 to $1,085.00???? Most are under $300.00.

Any thoughts on the quality of the model? I've never has any experience with the Yamaha speakers, except for some inexpensive ones that were sold at a hi-fi shop I worked at for awhile.

I think the price is high, but if they are worth pursuing, I can always offer less money. Or do I just need to walk away?

I seem to recall reading that these speakers are incredibly common -- a best seller for years. I see several pairs pop up on craigslist within driving distance of me which indicates they're not rare or collectible. Why pay a premium price?

No, they can be worth a lot if the condition is good enough, but where are the grills and photos of the cabinets. For CL that is high unless they're perfect. For that type of speaker I prefer the Mitsubishi (or Diatone) DS35B, which flies under the radar and is truly rare, at least in the US.

These prices are too good to be true, so I decided to check eBay too, just in case.

The lowest Yamaha NS-1000M speakers (not individual drivers that you seems to provided prices here) were sold on eBay auction for $900 + $150 shipping = $1,050.

The highest Yamaha NS0-1000M were sold on eBay auction for $1,510 + 180 shipping = $1,690. However, it seems that buyer didn't pay, so they were relisted and sold $1,085 + 180 = $1,265.

As for Yamaha NS-1000M is common speakers, well, common is a relative term. In my area Craigslist, I didn't see a single pair for the last 5 years of looking.

I don't need them, and at that price I would not be a buyer. Just fishing for opinions to see if they are worth going after, at a lower price...

I tend to think I'd buy working "under $300" NS-1000s all day long:yes:
I recently sold a pair for 900 in decent condition, grills and all. Craigslist style.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think this model has grills. I seem to remember a thread a while back about these where the very high end prices were due to a specialist on eBay who refurbished and sells these and/or (I think and) this model is popular in Japan (again all IIRC)

edit: nevermind, above poster probably knows what he's talking about

You may have come across several BIN listings for the NS-1000MM. They are NOT the same speaker, though look similar, but aren`t even made in Japan. :nono:

Original NS-1000M speakers w/ beryllium tweeters are worth $700-1000, end of story. If you can find a set for less and want them, grab them before someone else does; I know I probably would. :music:

I have a couple pair and would not part with them for anything less than 1K.. $625 Hell I'd jump on that for a third pair.

By the time I had paid carriage and taxes, I paid £400 for two tweeters from Wisconsin. As avionic says, they are worth it if working.

I'm not sure where people are coming up with "common" as a description for these speakers - they are anything but. Whether they are worth the market price is another story - and up to the listener. But if you find them in good condition for under $700 you've done well. I'd be on them in a heartbeat if that was a local price. Of course they wouldn't last long on the local listings... a flipper would have them and they'd be re-listed next week for $1k. Guaranteed.

Now - these particular ones the OP found are missing the mesh on the mids & tweets, so that is a factor. They may have been repaired. Still - if you've been looking for a pair of 1000M, these are good value.

Why? If you want them, go get them before somebody else does. You've already broken rule number 1, you've let the vultures on AK know about them before you snagged them.

That's funny... My OP stated that I'm not in the market, and was just looking for info, maybe to push me "into the market" or out of it. If the "vultures" here on AK want these, and they are a good deal, more power to them. If it was something I could not live without, believe me, they would have been home by now.

I see this as a fact-finding mission, you guys have all been very helpful, and I appreciate it. :thmbsp:
