Yamaha NS-2000 Don't get to excited....

Wondering if everything is original inside. Otherwise another Yamaha knockout. Would pair well with the CD-1.

The re-veneering makes them look like a DIY speaker.

Looks like he listed them on reverb.com for $2588 a while back.

The speakers have been well taken care of, both before, and since I received them. They sound amazing and function perfectly. The one modification that has been done to both speakers is that they have been re-veneered. They look great, and the wood matches our studios panels, but they do have a slightly different look than the originals (which some might consider a bonus)." No Grills as these were used in a studio.

The veneer is slightly worn in places, but still very presentable [see the pics]..One mid range driver has a very slight indentation that does not affect the sound in any way. Also, it appears the woofer surrounds must have been updated somewhere along the line or else they really hold up?

All in all, a fantastic pair of very functional and collectable speakers at a great price

The veneer work is pretty bad, but that's one hell of a speaker. The only thing that makes me worry is that if they did veneer and surrounds, did they mess with the crossovers and those potentiometers? I know they aren't pots... whatever they are... did they mess with them?

If they didn't... score at $2000. Because they need $500 worth of cosmetic resto IMO.

This pair was sold locally about 3 years ago for either $1500 or $1999. Everyone jumped on them, and this dude is now flipping them for almost double. And from the pictures, he has not done anything to improve upon the initial condition. I wouldn't touch this pair with a ten foot pole. For this money, I would wait for an original pair that has been babied....

supply vs demand...good buy at 1500.00. 3000.00 is chump change in the bay area... Im sure he/she will find a buyer around 2500.00. Good on them for picking up an extra 1,000.00. They do sound sweet. I have similar setup with later NS-1000x. Wouldn't sell mine for 2900.00

I have not listened to the ns1000's but I was really disappointed by the ns2000's. the highs and mids were excellent but it sounded like the low end driver was non existent very little thump. my speakers have 15" drivers so I know its a little unfair but even jbl l100t's hit harder, granted the ns2000's are a sealed enclosure I dunno really let down though.

Maybe it was the source? What kind of amp was he using, and also placement makes a difference.

My NS-690ii didn't really thump until I got the placement right. Were they at least 20 inches away from the wall?

I had the same experience with the NS-1000s, though I thought they were a bit shrill sounding. I heard them at an AKers house. He also played Dahlquist DQ10s. Don't think they were 20s. They sounded amazing.

Interesting. I've always thought that this could be because they really aren't supposed to be (or so I have been lead to understand) consumer products, but studio monitors and effort was made to make sure they only reproduced what was on the source material. Another story I heard but have no proof about is that they are tuned for the Japanese market which is supposed to like things light in the bass department. I can see where the close quarters of Japanese city dwellers might lend some truth to this, but it also has a very "urban legend" feel to it.

Bottom line is that the NS-1000 and 2000 are the top line monitors made by Yamaha. My 690ii can rock and they aren't anywhere near as robust as the 1000/2000. I don't understand why these massive speakers have a reputation for being "thin" and can only imagine that placement and/or power is an issue. But then again, I've never listened to them. So it may be true!

Unfortunately you eventually have to open your eyes. It's all about the sound, but I like my gear to look the part as well. JMHO

I totally get where DJ is coming from and in the garage, I don't care, but in the house... it needs to look good as well. I think it would be that way even if I lived alone. Which I don't.

NS1000M does not thump in a JBL L100 or HPM-100 way. That's the reason why fans like them.

At this point, it's personal...personal preference that is. If you like rolling thunder, it's all good. A lot of great Seventies music was mixed for Just Bass Loud and High Powered Mess speakers and sound great with them.
